Sanders unveils plan to double union membership in first term

Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Wednesday unveiled his “Workplace Democracy” plan aimed at doubling union membership in his first term and boosting middle class wages.
“Corporate America and the billionaire class have been waging a 40-year war against the trade union movement in America that has caused devastating harm to the middle class in terms of lower wages, fewer benefits and frozen pensions,” Sanders said in a statement.
“That war will come to an end when I am president. If we are serious about rebuilding the middle class in America, we have got to rebuild, strengthen and expand the trade union movement in America.”
Sanders’s plan works to cement his backing of the labor movement as he seeks to shore up support among the Democratic Party’s progressive flank and claw higher in polls of the crowded presidential primary field.

Card check. Repeal of Taft-Hartley. A right for all workers to join unions. Wage boards to set wages with labor reps on them! Pension protection. The right to strike for government employees. And more, much more. Any union official who does not endorse Bernie Sanders is a traitor to his membership.

Union leaders gambling by supporting establishment Third Way Dems have shot themselves in the ass over and over and don’t realize they’re bleeding to death. They need to wake up and they need to wake up now and support Bernie. He’s the only one who consistently puts on the walking shoes to march with labor of the frontrunners. But these “leaders” who supposedly serve at the will of their members are like weathervanes and too tied to the establishment for their own good. Fools. Bernie champions their cause and the “leaders” of Big Labor ignore him and cry that their issues need to be advanced. Assholes.

Bernie’s wise to the fact that the reason Europeans can get the masses out into the streets for protests is that they have a union structure that facilitates this. Having strong unions with active members who aren’t afraid to take to the streets will make a world of difference in how fast we can turn this country around.

Sanders Unveils Workplace Democracy Plan to Expand Labor Rights and Double Union Membership
Ahead of an AFL-CIO event in Iowa Wednesday, Democratic presidential primary candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders announced that, if elected, he would “make it easier, not harder, for workers to join unions by implementing the Workplace Democracy Plan and establishing a national goal to double union membership during his first term.”
Pointing to research from the think tank Economic Policy Institute which shows that “since the 1970s, declining unionization has fueled rising inequality and stalled economic progress for the broad American middle class,” Sanders aims to reverse that national trend with a new plan that builds on legislation the Independent senator from Vermont initially introduced in 1992.
“Corporate America and the billionaire class have been waging a 40-year war against the trade union movement in America that has caused devastating harm to the middle class in terms of lower wages, fewer benefits, and frozen pensions,” Sanders said in a statement. “That war will come to an end when I am president. If we are serious about rebuilding the middle class in America, we have got to rebuild, strengthen, and expand the trade union movement in America.”
