Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., rejected a claim by 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., he would support his “Medicare-for-all” agenda if elected president.

However, the moderate Democrat would not give a hard answer Wednesday on “Your World” about whether he would support President Trump over Sanders in a head-to-head.

In response to host Neil Cavuto’s question about supporting Sanders’ “Medicare-for-all” plan, the West Virginia lawmaker replied, “Absolutely not.”

However, he credited Sanders with offering thought-provoking ideas and discussions.

So does this mean Joe Manchin will be banned from SV?

I didn't refuse to vote for Hillary Clinton because any goddamned Russian told me to. I refused to vote for her because she is a warmongering, election stealing, Goldman Sachs fellating, Republican WHORE. No offense to sex workers.

Don’t be silly, they will try to recruit him to run for president.

SV requiring members to support Manchin without criticism was the straw that broke this particular former member’s back. I quit and never have returned.

Truly unfortunate that his own voters don’t recognize a hack when they see one.

(when can we get a barf icon for these kind of people)?

Well, I’d take that as a recommendation for Bernie. I mean if Manchin would vote for him….

What a POS. And wasn’t it his daughter that was making a killing in the Pharmaceutical industry, or was that another Democrat?

His daughter was the CEO of the Big Pharma company that jacked up the price of EpiPens by 1000% or so. With daddy’s blessings, of course.

Both have earned a trip your way at some point in the future.

But hey, vote Blue no matter who. For these people, I don’t think so. I prefer my crooks to be up front about it.

why isn’t there a movement to get manchin out?  what’s he ever done for WV?  One of the poorest states in the country, used and abused since forever, & still more of the same.

Somehow, I don’t think that Bernie will return the favor by not visiting WV.  If Joe is going to be his ornery self, that’s probably going to get President Sanders to show up a lot more in WV.

Wiki: “In foreign policy, Manchin has repeatedly called for the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan and opposed most military intervention in Syria.”

Not all bad, then. Red state senator whose voters don’t care if he has D or R label attached. Based on foreign policy, maybe he would prefer Tulsi to Trump?

@voltairine If one looks hard enough, one can usually find one or two positions every politician takes with which one agrees. For example, I usually agree with Rand Paul on foreign policy, but I’d never vote for the SOB. On domestic and economic issues, Joe Manchin is the worst of the worst of Vichy Democrats. That far outweighs anything he says about foreign policy, and the fact of the matter there is that he’s so corrupt the only reason he says such things is that he takes his bribes from the coal industry rather than the MIC.

      He’s scum.

Yeah, this guy confirms what I’ve been trying to say. Sanders’ domestic agenda depends from Congress, which is as corrupt as corrupt gets, and the gerrymandered general corruption gives little hope that Congress could significantly change for better. Where POTUS has some powers and can make real change is in foreign policy. Maybe you see differently and I can’t blame anyone for putting health care first. It’s tough.

Thank goodness. If Manchin votes for Trump over Bernie, then the world makes sense. Joe is a RW hack. He should vote for another RW hack.

National problems (slavery/racism, income inequality, pathetic health care, weak unions) are not solved with more states' rights. Global problems (climate change, migration, trade, war) are not solved with more national sovereignty.

Whatever happened to vote for the blue no matter who?

Here is the rationalization in some places – Bernie is not really a Democrat.  Yeah, they have a point – Bernie wants to HELP us, not help corporations, Wall Street, and the MIC.    Can’t say that about the Real Democrats who are running, no matter how  recently they joined the club.

I will not vote for a Vichy Dem. Period. As always, I decide who is a Vichy Dem.

That has always been a stupid joke, and same for red. It’s one party system with two wings that for most parts are hard to tell apart.

“Vote blue no matter who” is the entire foundation that the Democratic Party squats on.  They assume that if one is registered as a Democrat, one will do that, because team spirit or whatever.  Used to be because of platform and issues, but now just the color of the jersey.  And it is not a joke when it seems like so many people pay no attention to records and issues, but dutifully vote blue (or red) no matter who, on election day.  There will be people right here at JPR who will be pushing that meme if Bernie is not the candidate, and that is the entire reason for SV’s existence.

That’s kinda what I meant. Partisan loyalists are a joke and the joke is on them.

Also, the slogan has no factual basis. Serious voters who go through and and compare voting records of various reps would not need to do so if the slogan had factual basis and all reps just voted always loyally as whipped by party leadership. There would be no money from interested third parties in the game for the reps if they just did as told by central committee, which would get all the nice cash. Or perhaps in some rare cases, reps could not have principles to hold on to.

          Aloha!

I won’t tell anyone who to vote for. There are a few Bernie Sanders supporters on Twitter trying to shame Tulsi people into voting for Bernie. He is still my first choice but I will support something if is it a good policy or oppose if it is a bad one.

Last election the choice was between Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders so that was an easy choice. Stop and frisk O’Malley wasn’t even a consideration. This election there are a lot better choices than Hillary Clinton so it depends on who will be on the ballot & what the issues are but it is a long way away I’m focused on the primary.

I won’t have a problem with who anyone here votes for as long as no one here has a problem with who I vote for. I come here because it is less toxic & more friendlier to Bernie & Tulsi supporters.

There was no need for him to come out and say this, as the nominee hasn’t been determined and likely won’t until next summer. So what Joe is doing is proclaiming fealty to his owners, as loudly as he can.

Nobody who is brainwashed enough to vote for Manchin will ever vote for Bernie. Hell I suspect they all vote for Trump.

Joe Manchin is the Senator from my home state and he’s awful.Completely owned by the coal industry.

His uncle A.James Manchin was also in political life, heading a group that cleaned up a lot of junk and waste sites in West Virginia.A.James must be rolling in his grave over what a complete jerk his nephew is.

The only thing I found here that was really objectional to me, was the fact that Manchin is being called “Moderate”.

Manchin’s daughter is one of big pharma’s most evil. She’s a Martin Shkreli in female form, but they’ll only make an example out of the son of a janitor, never the daughter of a senator. In other words, there was never any chance Manchin would not work against the only candidate who has any intention of ending their grifting. His family’s livelihood depends on it. Literally.

We might as well get used to this. If Bernie is the nominee (they won’t let him, but let’s all play along, shall we?), the Dem party will back him in a very tepid manner. I would go as far as to say it will be hardly noticeable. They can’t control Bernie. Better to have a Trump they can bash while still making money than a Dem they can’t control and who is upsetting their money flow.
