Senate GOP Blocks Sanders From Preventing Entitlement Cuts

I really hate that they call these “entitlements”. So impressed with Bernie since the election – he’s one of the few who appear to actually be doing anything concrete…

Senate GOP blocks Sanders on preventing entitlement cuts.

    Jordain Carney – 01/10/17 03:55 PM EST

Senate Republicans blocked a push on Tuesday by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to prevent cuts to entitlement spending. Senators voted 49-49 on an amendment from the former presidential candidate, with 60 votes needed to overcome a procedural hurdle. Maine Sen. Susan Collins was the only Republican to vote for Sanders’s proposal.

Sanders had tried to win over GOP support by arguing that his amendment was in line with campaign rhetoric from President-elect Donald Trump.

“It says that we should support President-elect Trump when he campaigned throughout this country saying that I, Donald Trump, will not cut Social Security, will not cut Medicare, will not cut Medicaid,” Sanders said ahead of the vote.

But Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) rejected Sanders’s logic, firing back that “I don’t think that’s exactly what this is about.”

    3. I'm entitled to Social Security and Medicare. I paid into it for 50 years.

Yes, I am entitled to my entitlement.

      9. There you go again, using words precisely as they are meant!

Next thing is that you will probably start spouting logic!  :spank:

    4. People who take what others are entitled to are "thieves".

Someone took my car from where I had parked it.  The police report said it was a “car thief”.

    6. I consider Medicare Part D an "entitlement"

    for the pharmaceutical companies.

It could eventually be used to drain the entire trust fund, unless something is changed.

    7. Why are entitlements bad and perks good?

One is earned, the other is a gift. Is it who the receiver is?

    10. The GOP blocked a Sanders amendment?

No…there must be some kind of mistake.

Surely the GOP has the people in their hearts as they shred our social support systems? I mean Obamacare is the same as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicade…Right?

    11. Enzi is an idiot. Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are not Obamacare. It

might have helped if we had known this was on the floor. It appears that all D senators voted for it which is good. He needs to get us into the mix so we can put pressure on the Rs.

    12. They ARE entitlements. We are ENTITLED to them because WE PAID FOR THEM!

Take the word back and make it ours again.  We are ENTITLED to the Social Security and Medicare benefits because we pay for them for forty to fifty plus years before collecting.

The last time America was run like a business, we ended up with a Great Depression.
