“The nation should not be at war without a vote of Congress,” said Sen. Tim Kaine, the measure’s lead sponsor.

The Senate on Thursday passed a War Powers Resolution aimed at preventing President Donald Trump from launching military action against Iran without congressional approval.
“The nation should not be at war without a vote of Congress,” said Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), the lead sponsor of S.J. Res. 68.
The resolution passed by a vote of 55-45—with the support of eight Republicans—and now heads to the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives, where it is expected to pass.
In an era of hyper-partisanship and blind allegiance by the GOP to Donald Trump, it is a testament to just how reckless his foreign policy is on #Iran that EIGHT Republican Senators voted with Democrats for this stinging, bipartisan vote for peace. https://t.co/54gturnhMz

“I voted YES,” tweeted Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate. “Unlike Trump, today’s bipartisan vote made it clear that a majority of the U.S. Senate believes in our Constitution and the separation of powers. It is Congress, not the president, who has the power to take this country into war, and that’s what this vote was about.”…

Some sanity from our government. Question though, if rRump goes ahead anyway, are they willing to impeach?

This is nowhere near enough to override the guaranteed veto.
But it is amazing that we got this many democrats and 8 republicans to defy the MIC.
What is going on here?

Why a new law to make it illegal again? What happens if Trump ignores that law too? If Trump does start a war, will congress “investigate” it, subpoena evidence that will also be ignored?

It’ll be vetoed immediately. So its meaningless.
And it’s a little late anyway. There is no war with Iran. The tensions are de-escalated. After Iran knocked down that commercial airliner, they backed down completely.

I don’t Think that plane had anything to do with trump backing down. Trump Backed down because Iran hit several bases severely damaging the infrastructure of the largest, without the US hitting one missle with anything. Then a certain plane crash in Afghanistan very likely took out the architect of coups, chemical weapon hoaxes, and assignation For the Middle East, and his team of CIA cronies. Iran is the first country to stand up to the US since WWII. And
the US was completely unprepared

Is having the “support” of Trump when running for office in purple states becoming the kiss of death for Republicans?
In my purple district our Republican congresswoman sends out pretty postcards of herself….but never mentions Trump. She votes the party line and voted against the Acts of Impeachment but she ain’t bragging about it.
