Shaun King: Clinton sucked the wind out of the Democratic Party’s sails

KING: Will Hillary Clinton join the long line of Democrats who bail on their promises after a presidential election?
    Shaun King
    New York Daily News

For 18 months, the entire Democratic Party revolved around her. She made dozens and dozens of campaign promises about who and what she would fight for and who and what she would fight against.

I’m bothered because she sucked the wind out of the Democratic Party’s sails, dominated the superdelegates and left state parties with only a tiny fraction of the funds they raised together to spend on her campaign. Then, when she lost, and we were left the impending Trump presidency, she moved on.

It’s a problem. It’s also why so many of us love Bernie Sanders so much. After shocking the world and winning over 20 states in the primaries against Hillary Clinton, his eventual loss was a bitter pill to swallow.

Nonetheless, Bernie got right back on the grind to fight for the very things he said he would fight for if elected President. In other words, Bernie did not see his campaign promises as being limited to a win or a loss. In spite of his loss to Clinton, he campaigned all over the country for her to help see Trump defeated. Daily, he is fighting for and speaking about the dangers of Donald Trump and the injustices in our country.

In other words, Bernie Sanders is pretty much the same man he was before this presidential campaign.

      1. What gets me

is how the Hillbots couldn’t see this. And most still can’t.

I honestly hope that the establishment on both sides fuck this country up so badly that the proles have no choice but to pay attention. Maybe then we can get stuff done.

        5. Not can't. Won't

They are so far up that Egyptian river they have totally lost contact with the real world.

Apparently, some of Hillary’s wealthy donors are pissed and they want to know what went wrong and how was their money spent.  They aren’t buying any bullshit about Russian hackers.  Or fake news.  These are some serious people.  They weren’t “with her”or any other trite phrases.  They invested big bucks in her because they expected something, were assured it was in the bag, and now they won’t be getting anything in return for their investment.

The Clintons don’t care about the fanboys and girls.  Their only worry is that the cash faucet will be turned off.  It could get ugly for them.  And it could result in an extremely harsh helping of reality of the true believers.

              11. Thanks for pointing that out. I missed it.

Accountability for a Clinton? Vats’ that, Bill looks at Hill, and Hill back at Bill.

I don’t know what that is. They want us to tell them how we spent their millions? What an odd thing to ask for.

              lol. lovin’ it.

            12. I actually mentioned that earlier as part of the "grand plan" to change the Dems

they can block FDR and Eisenhower Dems and run decade-long losing streaks only as long as the money continues flowing

this goes beyond the Buffets and the Soroses–millionaires don’t like watching the money they spent so much effort on go into a rat hole in exchange for worthless political “stock”; how many carriages would you buy if they kept turning into pumpkins?

they might conceal it under their everpresent dancing-poodle facade, but many state DPs are incandescent over the HVF stealing $61M from them

more importantly, Trump is bent on remaking the GOP into a big-tent party engineered and gerrymandered into a permanent majority, especially at the state level; as in Russia you can now only be an oligarch as long as you play by his rules, fuse your businesses with state affairs, and join the autarkic project

the Dems’ “grand plan” is “turn on the radio, close the curtains, and wait it out for 12 years like we had to do in 1920,” figuring that if the Pubs make enough missteps a popular prez will fall in their laps in 2028: they’re banking on Pelosi 2018 and Booker 2020–and that might piss the superdonors enough, not to back a Sandernista takeover but at least to pull out the sugartit

      3. Two things also: If Mr. Sanders had not campaigned for her….

…she would have REALLY had her ass kicked. I suspect at least 8 percent of her votes would have never materialized.

Just about every person I talked to about “Her” said: “Christ, she made more in 2 hours talking to some sleazy-ass bankers than  I make in 4-5 years.

      NOT a good move..Hillary.

      4. Earth to Shaun King – Hillary was not going to fight for what she promised, even

if she won.  And she won’t fight for anything now, except to somehow undermine Trump – because of the office she wanted, not because of the issues.  I sort of picture Hillary and Bill worried about those hefty speaking fees and CF “donations”, now that she is not in a position to sell favors.  I don’t see anything happening but protests.  And she gutted the DNC and state parties, methinks.  Financially, anyway – they were well on their way to being gutted as far as Democratic values.

You think the only reason that people won't vote for a warmongering Third Way fracking-enabling cluster bomb throwing H-1B increasing lying pandering corporate and Wall Street shill who says she has no problem putting abortion rights on the table is because we are mad about Bernie?  Um, nope.

        14. I don't see him arguing that she would have

Just pointing out what she said – followed straight-up by the fact that after her loss, she has fallen off the radar. Where the fuck is she? She could still do some of the lifting she said she was going to do.. .but she isn’t, and she won’t.

That’s King’s point – that Clinton used the Democrats – party and voter alike, gave nothing in return, and put them away wet.

          15. Make no mistake – I want her gone. But – this is why I said Earth to Shaun –

“She made dozens and dozens of campaign promises about who and what she would fight for and who and what she would fight against.”

All of that was ever-changing and amorphous.  Bloviation, really.  she couldn’t even sound sincere stealing positions from Bernie.  IMO, anyone who believed her was a fool.

She has no power now.  None.   What lifting can she possibly do?  Her campaign devolved into pure personality .  She and her supporters eschewed any talk of actual issues.  By the end of the campaign, Hillary stood for nothing but “Hillary for President”.   She cannot say anything that will ring true or sincerely.  If King, or anybody, thought Hillary stood for anything but Hillary for President, then they were not paying attention.  She flip-flopped on issues so glaringly as a matter of convenience, who can say what she actually stood for?  She stood for nothing, and she stands for nothing.  She is just a huge wad of ego, beholden to her sponsors.  And the sponsors were always what she was going to fight for.  Not issues, not the 99%.

I think that malice is all that is left, both from Hillary and her supporters.  Hillary has no real influence.  She fucked over the states, she finished second in the race, so her sponsors’ betting slips and IOUs are worthless.

So King is starting from the mistaken premise that Hillary – Ms. private position and public position – meant anything she said in the first place.

You think the only reason that people won't vote for a warmongering Third Way fracking-enabling cluster bomb throwing H-1B increasing lying pandering corporate and Wall Street shill who says she has no problem putting abortion rights on the table is because we are mad about Bernie?  Um, nope.

            22. Bra-vo, djean

As many have said before, even her campaign slogan told us what we needed to know about her platform.  After blowing $1.2 billion, handpicking her third-rate opponent, and having the MSM completely in her pocket she couldn’t seal the deal because she was an empty suit and it showed. She demanded huge wads of cash and blind loyalty and she offered nothing in return except the dubious distinction of being “with Her.” Powerlessness must be absolute hell for a sociopath like her.

You really nailed the empress’s lack of integrity and substance.

      10. Clinton did what Obama did

Namely, cannibalized the Democratic Party to subsume it into their own personal political operations.

Obama got away with it as he won twice. Had he not, we’d be asking the same questions, why he was allowed to decimate the party to advance himself.

        27. It's still kind of stunning to me how much this was basically overlooked

It was a Nixon kind of corrupt thing to do. In the 70s, we Democrats were pretty upset with Tricky Dick for stunts like this.

For all the whining about the Russians, weren’t they the ones who exposed Clinton and the DNC in cahoots – putting their thumb on the scale against Sanders?

Why should a candidate who does such a thing deserve to become president?

I can’t stand Trump and think he’s worse but the above behavior disqualified candidates in the past but in today’s politics, this is ok? I don’t think so.

      34. That's what kills me when people talk up the popular vote spread

They’re right that she won the popular vote.  So what is she doing with that kind of clout?

So far, not a damn thing.  She just dropped the ball and walked away.  She can’t even be bothered to point her supporters towards any kind of useful effort.  I wasn’t a big fan of hers, but I had expected her to at least take up shop as a figurehead for the party.
