Though I enjoy the idea of Trump in a bunker in the white house basement,

      I think it’s getting opportunistic.

Smaller communities now being hit or expected to be hit

I see people in various places saying ‘don’t come here’ e.g.

There’s about 89K people in waukegan.

Looks to me like there are a lot of bad faith actors in the mix

The autozone cop breaking windows to start things rolling for example

Trump calling it all for antifa the terrorist organization…

Various rightist types in the mix

And general opportunists who just want to break things and steal things

The policing & crowd control seems pretty random in a lot of cities, as if control weren’t really on the menu

Nobody really knows whats going on

Just letting buildings burn in some cases though they could be saved

not real happy about the smaller businesses that have gotten hit

and even the bigger ones may close = less physical shopping, more bezos

The original cause is losing public sympathy

Concerned that this will be used to turn the US into even more of a police state

Riots after the MLK assassination lasted 2-4 days depending on the city.

6 days and counting this time & no end in sight — and moving into Waukegan?

All these young people, so many that if they were disciplined & kept the public on their side they could get multiple political demands met

      Fucking waste imho

Wait, never mind, they never stopped doing that.

I suspect the public will just waste an opportunity for change and improvement just like the last few times.  What a great opportunity to force our legislators towards M4A and UBI.

Well, what they call “economy” continues to downspiral, people especially in urban centers are left without even without shittiest jobs for shittiest income, after the few covid bucks ran out they are left without any social security and legal means to get their basic needs satisfied. At the same time the Dollar Empire continues to collapse also internationally at increasing pace.

So, what do you think people totally abandoned by the collapsing state capitalist system are going to do? As always, they start to organize mutual aid by various means available and plenty of innovation. As the rural communities are more resilient, people are leaving big centers and moving to periphery, which strengthens also voluntary support networks from rural communities to urban communities, where struggle for control of public spaces between people and what remains of the collapsing establishment continues. Full blown civil war is possible, but far from certain.

      Aloha!

Downtown Cleveland’s closed. There are massive traffic jams of people trying to get in to go to work. Police checkpoints all over the place. It looks like friggin’ East Berlin during the Cold War.

I just called in and requested to use my own vacation time if the county insists we should go down into that dangerous clusterfuck. Downtown closed till Wednesday. Fucking cops. If the government really wanted to end this, they’d execute those four murderers as an example and tell the cops “This will happen to you if you do this shit.”

Yes, I’m feeling just a tad of that old berserker rage right now. There’s a song in there somewhere.

If the tables had been turned, is there any doubt at all that all 4 would be facing murder 1 charges?

I’m not much for the death penalty, I would be happy to see all 4 spend many decades behind bars.

The blue shield needs to be broken. Cops that shield other bad cops are just as complicit, and deserve similar punishment. Do it until the bad ones are weeded out and their buddies are too.

Shot while resisting arrest. @n2doc The cops responded to protests mostly by starting riots themselves. I think we have moved from prerevolutionary times into revolutionary ones. Lot of fear and loathing in Cleveland right now, and I know we’re not alone.

      that also happened in Kristallnacht.

History may not exactly repeat, but it does often rhyme.  I wonder if the black community will be asked to pay for the damages in the rioting?

Though I’ve tried talking to people about it, it seems that very few understand what a universal basic income is.  When I explain, im told it is unrealistic that it could ever happen.  People have gotten so used to nothing but bad shit from government, the new deal, the hope inspired in the 60s by Martin Luther King and the Kennedy brothers…

The shit we live with now is all my generation really knows – and those older saw their heroes and leaders fall, without justice.  Now, apparently our “leaders” if they have any spine at all, have decided to surrender it to the establishment.

What next?  Without wise, compassionate leadership and some sense of purpose, of direction… nothing good.  More innocents suffering, hurt and killed in the name of profit for the few.

This is the moment when people of good will – Sanders, Reverend Barber, AOC and others need to speak up.  Join in the protests, demand the changes they have been calling for – and thry would have an army behind them….

Failing that?  If the cowardice in leadership on the left continues… the right will remain in power.  I am an ordinary citizen – if someone leads, I will follow – but i lack the resources and power to act alone.

The truth is that our leaders, for the most part, have abandoned us.  Into that void steppedthe likes of Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Obama… Now Trump – maybe Biden… And likely, in time, someone even worse.

Leaders of the past would have been tarred and feathered for saying and doing half the shit Trump and Biden have.

Someone with power needs to step into the light.  The American people will follow, but someone must lead.

Lead how? There comes a time in child’s life when they no more cannot follow the lead of their parents, but must grow up into adults and start taking responsibility. A good parent, a good leader, leads in that time by refusing to offer the kind of leadership a child is used to.

But, I’ll give it a go.

The filthy rich are nervous right now. Pandemics, 100,000+ dead Americans, a 2nd Great Depression, Riots and violence in the top capitalist country of the world are not good things even for scum like Zuckerberg. (Ha ha, Zuck told Trump to pause on the racist tweets.) All these horrors stop normal trade and destroy once functioning markets.

The filthy rich will probably line up with their hands out looking for another bailout. They will look to buy stock in security and weapons corporations. This will probably result in more violence because of increase sales in guns.

The filthy rich will hire more security and attack dogs. The filthy rich will look to pass legislation that will reduce all their taxes. They will look to cut Social Security and Medicare. They will increase taxes on the middle class.

Trump will tweet crap and more crap.

Cop unions will get donations from the filthy rich to protect their scared fat a**es. Cops will end up shooting and killing a lot more Americans with new weapons like armed hellos, drones and bombs.

Courts will jail every protester they can, no matter how peaceful the person was. Some kind of horror will play out in the overcrowded jails.

GDP will continue to plunge. Unemployment will continue to be in the range of 30 to 20 percent. Salaries will continue to be stagnant.

American citizens will start applying for political asylum in foreign countries. Americans will start leaving the US in large numbers. Migration to the US will stop.

I do not see the US ever moving away from their facism and economic destruction by the filthy rich.

The big picture is that with corporate bail outs the rich fuck think they can buy and control the whole economy… but end up only destroying last functional remnants of state capitalist markets and obedience to property norms, “owning” what has evaporated and ceased to exist.

The unfettered ruling class corruption has totally destroyed any and all reliability of the centralized bookkeeping that state capitalist market relies on. They’ve looted themselves out of their market platform. 😀

..after the riots about what happened to Rodney King back in 1990.

The protests were quashed and nothing changed. The system did not bend one iota.

      @voltairine

Society does not thrive without wise and compassionate guidance.  The young do not learn without it – you speak of children?  I learned all about suffering at a very, very young age (5).  As a boy and teenager it made me a troubled person, angry at the world… No, enraged.  As I grew older, i learned the value of empathy and humility – but it all came at a great price.

Part of paying that price is the person i am today.  Disabled, five different diagnosed mental health conditions, on medication, bad back, low resources, living in part because of the help of others.  Without my parents – their compassionate guidance, i would never have made it even this far.

Do you know what a good leader does?  Offers direction, serves the people – and ultimately lets them do their jobs, knowing their value.  There is no such leader today – and without one, we are lost.  It is not a parent to a child, but a mentor to a protege.  This is why i so admired Sanders for a long time.  It is what the young need – guidance that is so lacking today.

Into that void stepped neocons, neoliberals, the tea party, Trump.  They may be cruel, they may be greedy and corrupt – but anyone who has stood up to them has either fallen or backed down.  All of them.

For various reasons – that leader cannot be me.  It must be someone of charisma, passion, someone who can both inspire amd teach the youth of today.  I am waiting for that person – and will eagerly give them my full support – as I did Sanders, before he folded.

No, we cannot all be the hero we search for, some of us just aren’t cut out for it.  When one comes along though, the people will rise.  The time is now…

Failing that, we can mouth empty platitudes and cliches at each other – but i and most others lack the power to change the world.

Its either revolution (unlikely), or more likely, pretend reforms (meet the new boss, same as old boss), and if things dont quiet down in a couple weeks the protestors get the old occupy treatment, and all the newscasts will be running stories about sharkbites.  Nothing to see here, folks
