Staffers: Clinton Campaign Undone Due to Neglect and Arrogance

WASHINGTON ― In the closing weeks of the presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton’s staff in key Midwest states sent out alarms to their headquarters in Brooklyn. They were facing a problematic shortage of paid canvassers to help turn out the vote.

For months, the Clinton campaign had banked on a wide army of volunteer organizers to help corral independents and Democratic leaners and re-energize a base not particularly enthused about the election. But they were volunteers. And as anecdotal data came back to offices in key battlegrounds, concern mounted that leadership had skimped on a critical campaign function.

Several theories have been proffered to explain just what went wrong for the Clinton campaign in an election that virtually everyone expected the Democratic nominee to win. But lost in the discussion is a simple explanation, one that was re-emphasized to HuffPost in interviews with several high-ranking officials and state-based organizers: The Clinton campaign was harmed by its own neglect.

    snip

“They had staff on the ground and lots of volunteers, but they weren’t running a massive program because they thought they were up 6-7 points,” said the aforementioned senior battleground state operative.

    1. "a problematic shortage of paid canvassers"

That thing Sanders wasn’t worried about because of all the volunteers. Turns out it mattered, huh.

Will the Democratic party learn the lesson here? Doubtful. Those in charge are in charge because they raise loot. So cash is going to remain the sovereign cure all. Not to mention the cut that goes to those connected to those raising the dough.

Supposedly Brock had a wild way of funneling cash hither and fro, and getting a cut from the transit. I wonder how hard that’s getting looked at. Ha, he no longer has his protector, so that might get interesting.

      10. 6 or 7 points is hardly anything considering most polls are +/- 4 to 5 points

depending on the size and the demographic of the response pool.

Besides, if anything, you have a consistent unfavorably rating of 45 to 60 points  (remember the +/- 4 to 5 points) you cannot count on nothing being in your favor. Especially when your positive rating was below 35 points. Another words, this campaign was blowing sunshine where there was none.

Then there was the Clinton trust rating, which at best was in the high teens. Another problem area for the campaign not addressed.

In the end, a lot of voters stayed at home.

      <snip>

An Estimated 57.9 Percent of Eligible Voters Voted in 2016
Projections from the United States Elections Project show that there were 231,556,622 Americans eligible to vote, but 138,884,643 voted. That means that 40 percent didn’t vote, while 60 percent did. The voter turnout will likely increase as the popular vote continues to be counted.

Voting Eligible Population Ballots   138,884,643 (60 percent)
Voter Eligible Population That Didn’t Vote   92,671,979 (48 percent)
      Voter Eligible Population Total  231,556,622

This number is not the same number as registered voters. Politico reported in October 2016 that the data firm TargetSmart calculated that there were 200 million people registered to vote, an increase from 146.3 million registered to vote in 2008. Eleven states also allowed same-day voter registration.

    6. Naw, it's because she'd been told that it would be rigged for her.

Then it wasn’t.  Why it wasn’t is the real question of this s/election.

One of my guesses: Investigations of the Clinton Foundation had to be stopped.  And now they are.  Trump says he thinks it’s unkind to pursue them.

Another of my guesses:  Re-eruption of internal war between the Old Cons and the Neo-Cons that we first saw glimpses of when Cheney-Rumsfeld outed CIA agent Valerie Plame and her entire, worldwide WMD counter-proliferation project, back in 2003 (on into 2006, when the Fitzgerald investigation petered out).  Old Cons (Bush Sr. et al) are more into profits than war; Neo-Cons are into blunt force “smash-and-grab” but don’t think things through very well.  Old Cons came down on Cheney-Rumsfelf (ousted Rumsfeld – late 2006 – and curtailed Cheney for the final two years of Bush Jr.’s romp) (- curtailed as to nuking Iran); and permitted Obama to be elected to pursue their methods and long term profit motives  (for instance, opening Iranian markets and getting some of that oil, infiltrating Iran, surveilling and even directing where the oil goes – getting a handle on China); or, preventing Gadaffi from establishing an African currency (- they don’t mind a little war, chaos, murder, torture – but are wary of our unwieldy military and its inherent feedback loop to U.S. civilians); or, wily Devil’s Chessboard moves to try to play Russia and China off against each other and prevent their alliance – that sort of thing).  Old Cons think long term.  Neo-Cons don’t.  They clashed in 2003.  Leon Panetta (member of Bush Sr.’s “Iraq Study Group”) smoothed it over.  They are clashing again.  Result: Trump (cuz Hillary was hanging with Neo-Cons and that looked a bit narly to the Old Cons).

Anybody else got any guesses?  WHY was Hillary so arrogant and seemingly clueless and convinced of her “inevitableness”?   Was it just a character flaw?

        8. Do you mean the same character flaw?

Could be.  But I think it was more grave character flaws (arrogance, hubris) combined with being told that it was “all arranged” (they would rig it for her, if necessary).  I don’t think her Overlord sponsors would be so cruel as to deliberately lie to her while secretly backing Trump.  I take that back.  They very well could be that cruel, but I don’t think that’s what happened.  I think they promised it to her and then bailed for some reason, at the last minute.  The FBI Clinton Foundation investigations was the smoldering-beneath-the-surface event of that week (the week before the s/election) so I’m pretty sure that’s what it was – those investigations had to stopped, even at the cost of having to write off their billion dollar investment in Hillary.  Could’ve been something else, or a combination of things, but it sure was sudden.  One day she was “inevitable.”  The next day she was not.

          9. Agree — it took a seriously flawed mind and character

to think that bragging about Kissinger was a good thing.  For crying-out-loud, no republican has boasted about being BFF with Kissinger in 50 years.  Why did she have to go there with this self-inflicted wound?

Crimes against Humanity: Why Is Henry Kissinger Walking Around Free?

If bragging about a war criminal mentor represents Clinton’s best thinking, then she was never qualified to run in the first place.  So does anyone else wonder where the lie that she was the most qualified person to ever run come from?  And why did Barack Obama hold his nose and utter it repeatedly?

            11. She Wasn't Qualified

She had only been elected to one public service posting thanks to the ultimate carpetbagging.

And she didn’t do very well with her Senator oversight of the push to war in Iraq or the building financial disaster in her own constituency.

Then she used every opportunity possible to create a conflict of interest and sabotage the public trust.

            And she lied like crazy.

Heck I would say she uniquely disqualified herself.

            Trump isn’t qualified either.

Bernie was far and away the best choice and if the media was worth anything he would be our President now.

            13. Her alliance with Kissinger was the decider for me, as to GE voting.

I was still a bit on the fence about a “lesser of two weasels” vote.  Was I going to cave to these assholes once again?  Despite massive election fraud against Bernie Sanders?  Despite her Wall Street “speeches”?  Despite Libya and – dear to my heart – Honduras?  I was a bit afraid that we were being tricked into electing Mussolini.  I pondered this for some time.

Then I saw it.  Then I read it.  Henry Fucking Kissinger!  She vacations with Henry Fucking Kissinger!

I’m old enough to know what Henry Fucking Kissinger did.  I lived through the slaughter of TWO MILLION people in Southeast Asia and the deaths of nearly 60,000 U.S. soldiers.  And that was not all of the evil that that man unleashed upon humanity.

Anyway, for what my vote is worth–for what any of our votes are worth – she didn’t get mine.  And this, to me, is what the Democratic Party has become – a party I’ve been a member of for over 50 years.  The party of Henry Fucking Kissinger.

              14. wow, never thought of it that way

the dems are really evil – morphing into the party of Kissinger! No wonder Sanders ran – our choice was the party of Koch & Cheney or Kissinger. That’s got to change before we can take back America.
