I just received a solicitation in the mail from my U.S. Senator, Catherine Cortez Masto. She’s running for re-election and seeking funds to defeat Republican Adam Laxalt. The two-page letter warns that Laxalt is basically Trump’s surrogate. If you summarize the entire contents of the letter that is basically all that it says, that Democrats in Nevada need to supply her with money and votes because she is not Donald Trump, and for that reason only. It states not a word about what policies she will or won’t support.

Way too many Democrats have already decided that the 2022 strategy will be only to express opposition to Donald Trump, and that it is unnecessary to make clear what positions they hold with regard to any policies. Even if the Democrats do win with this strategy, what do We the People get out of it?

Am I the only one who thinks that we should demand support for progressive policies in exchange for votes and contributions? Am I the only one who suspects that, in the long run, this will prove to be a losing strategy for Democrats?

Over the last year, they have delivered almost nothing of what was promised during the elections.

Biden built Trump’s wall, kids are still in cages, there’s still no public option for healthcare, the Democrats support war, coronavirus is the worst is has ever been and testing still isn’t easily available, the minimum wage is still $7.25 — well, the list goes on an on.

I’m not sure the Democrats have anything to run on.  Even if they run on promises, this year shows everyone that their promises are just meaningless words.

No you’re not the only one; not at all. In fact, I would take it a step further and argue that most Democratic politicians are well aware that this is a losing strategy, but choose it anyway! In the history of the Democratic party has there ever been a bigger fundraiser for their cause than Donald Trump? And when they lose, they go on to bigger and better anyway: the real money is in Lobbying, unless you’re Nancy Pelosi (insider trading). Why work your ass off to run for office when you can become obscenely wealthy, while simply helping to grease the Corruption Express, through Lobbying?

Not until they actually do something that helps We The People. Talk is cheap. Show us the money. Enact some policies.

However, as @utopianleftist said, the Democrats don’t care if they lose. Those voted out will just segue to lucrative corporate board seats and jobs at think tanks, banking on gullible “progressive” voters to keep sending those institutions money to stop the evil Republicans. For the last 30 years or so, they’ve actually made more money when they are out of power.

At this point, asking if it could get any worse could be considered a fatal question.

I appreciate that, and the responses here, because I posted the same at my blog on The Smirking Chimp, where the response implies that I’m foolish not to recognize that Trump must be defeated at all costs.

I’ll go further than that. They know that they will lose. In

my state the rep for district 7 is leaving. Granted that redistricting

would make his reelection harder, he could have fought for

reelection as an incumbent. I think that he realizes that this would be

exactly the reason for a loss.

….but only because I can’t think of a better name than that.  I thought about the Green Hell party, but that sounded really cheesy….

I guess I hate Trump, but that’s not enough to make me vote blue no matter who. Trump is hugely obnoxious, but he’s losing the favor of his former supporters as they move on to crazier shit. Democrats have not stood for anything, nor stood up for anything, for 40 years, so they probably don’t know how anymore.

My reaction follows after the blockquote. Here’s the verbatim text of another letter I just got out of my mailbox from Catherine Cortez Masto, dated January 20, 2022.

      Dear Mr. Robertson,

He wanted him, he got him.

Now Donald Trump’s handpicked candidate is leading me by 4 points in Nevada’s toss-up Senate race.

That’s why I need you to please join my 2022 U.S. Senate re-election campaign today with a donation of $35, $50 or even $100.

I need you to step up now because national Republicans are rallying behind my top opponent.

They’re all in for Adam Laxalt – Nevada’s former attorney general.

My opponent is a Trump loyalist. He was Donald Trump’s Nevada campaign co-chair in 2020.

It’s no secret why Trump has already endorsed him.

In the last election, my opponent parroted Trump’s Stop the Steal lies and sued to stop the ballot count in Democratic parts of Nevada.

My opponent helped file lawsuits to overturn the presidential election results in Nevada. I’m not about to let someone who tried to overturn the election for Donald Trump win this race and flip the one seat Republicans need to take back Senate control.

But to hold this Senate seat and protect our majority, I need you to donate to my campaign today.

When I got elected, I became the first Latina Senator in our country’s history.

      The race was close.

I won by just 2 points.

Democrat’s have won the last two presidential elections in Nevada by the same small margin.

      This is a purple state.

That explains why outside groups are outspending me.

They’ve already poured millions of dollars into Nevada to defeat me.

Meanwhile, the Cook Political Report downgraded my chances of winning – just as CNN is calling Nevada a top pickup opportunity for Republicans.

Here’s the bottom line: this is a moment when I need Democrats everywhere to help me defend this seat.

That’s why I’m counting on you to please join me and donate today. Thanks for stepping up at this make-or-break moment for our campaign.

¡La lucha sigue! The fight continues!

      Senator Catherine Cortez Masto

P.S. My new opponent is Donald Trump’s go-to guy in Nevada. He’s leading me by 4 points in the polls. They’re calling my Senate race a toss-up. I can’t win re-election without your help. Thanks for donating now.

That’s all. Did you spot any positions at all in that letter? Aside from “Trump bad”. Where does she stand on Medicare for All? How about the Trans Pacific Partnership? What’s her position on a Federal Jobs guarantee, or Universal Basic Income? What position would she take on college loan forgiveness, climate change, or … well anything actually? I think I can see why she’s down 4 points. It’s not because they’re outspending her. It’s because she doesn’t stand for anything! If, as she says, she can’t win without my help, well then we may as well congratulate Laxalt now.

I typed the contents of her letter and erred on “Steal”. CCM spelled it correctly. She can spell. I guess that’s supposed to be reason enough for me to vote for her.

I can’t help but laugh at how this just kinda came out of nowhere. She’s got you though. You better pony up some cash or you’re a racist and a sexist. No way around it, unfortunately.

And that is a big ‘maybe’ if they are Democrats (or Republicans for that matter). Frankly both parties can burn at this point and it will be a win of the American people.
