Hi JackPine Radicals!!
Me and da kid and LoE thought we should tell you what’s going on under the hood, as it were. It turns out that Larry has been a very bad boy. We are in the middle of assessing just what to do with him at this time. It doesn’t look too good, as it were. The little rat.
Our intention was to start getting all those pesky notification problems straightened out, but that may have to be put on hold. Not for long, hopefully because they driving me nuts so they must be driving you nuts as well. Unfortunately, we have bigger fish to fry because you guys are ‘Berning’ up the hamster village and Larry is now trying to get even for his ‘accidental’ incident with Manny so long ago, which is going to cost us. The little shit never told us just how busy we was making them, and now we are at the limit of their power production capabilities and that puts us between the proverbial rock and hard place. I’m gonna kill him. If Deadpool doesn’t get to him first.
So, here is the plan, Stan.
We are going to have to upgrade to at least double the CPU’s that we have now SOON. The good news is that the hosting company will have some slices with the needed number of cores available within a week or so. They also claim that they will migrate us data preserved to the new slice and our VPS will only be down for a minimal time. They claim minutes. We’ll see how that goes. For that little bit of claim they have to have some really serious data throughput capabilities.
That little bit of upgrade seriously impedes our ability to have the notifications issue resolved as a front end plugin designed and written for us by a code guru, which I appropriately term ‘our hired gun’. The guy is a master mechanic, but he don’t come cheap. So, the notifications issue will remain till funds can cover it after the expenses we will have for the site speed we want.
So, why are we doing it this way?
Long ago in JPR history, we had a magnificent site. One of the founders was a code guru herself, and she wrote and implemented a bunch of really cool features into the second version of JPR. Unfortunately she had to hack it in from the back, or the PHP code of the foundation program. That spelled disaster if that bunch of code wasn’t taken out and put in from the front end via plugins. Well, things happened and she left before that work got off the ground and within a year or two the updates to WordPress, BuddyPress, bbPress and native PHP itself literally overcame the back end codes which began to fail exponentially.
When the three of us took over JPR we swore to each other that the site would never use back end development again, using front end code fixes called plugins designed and built by experts that could be fixed external to the running site instead. We have kept to that to this day. It has been a long hard fight to get to where we are even though we know that we have a bit further to go. And we will get there. It just may take a little longer.
Now let’s go win this nomination.

I understood less than half of that but let us know what we need to do and thank you for all that you do.
