<header class=”entry-header”>What I would add (perhaps disagreeing with Ted) is that leaderless movements are largely ineffectual. Progressives *could* just all join the Green party today, but it won’t happen by itself. For them, or a new party, to take root will only happen when someone on the level of a Nina Turner gets in front of it. A successful movement needs a strong face!

Why We Need a New Progressive Party and How We Can Create It

Progressive Party (United States, 1912) - Wikipedia

There is no room for progressives in the Democratic Party.

No matter how many votes he or she gets, no progressive will be permitted to be the presidential nominee of the Democratic Party.

Progressives who try to work inside of, contribute to and support the Democratic Party have no real chance of moving its candidates or policies to the left.

Remaining inside the Democratic Party achieves nothing; to the contrary, it is insidiously counterproductive. Working for “change from the inside” strengthens centrist politicians who oppose progressivism with every fiber of their being.

There is no more hope for the democrat party any time soon as far as I’m concerned, and I have no more desire to try and change it from within.

All governments lie to their citizen's, but only Americans believe theirs.

That’s what I believed in 2016 and 2020 proved me right.

WE MUST START A NEW PARTY NOW…but like @bernin4u said, it needs a powerful, RESPECTED face leading it. Nina Turner (though she’s been campaigning for 8 years – deserves a break)? Chris Hedges? Kyle Kulunski? Shaun King?

It’s imperative we start a new PROGRESSIVE party ASAP.

but please don’t ask me to name them because i can’t. the 2 party system is a failure.

it is too late this year to start a 3rd party or independent candidacy. even the greens are having trouble gathering signatures for ballot access.

i do plan on voting for the green (probably howie hawkens).

a charismatic leaser is necessary. but the ralph naders and bernie sanders are not common. we may have to wait for occasio-cortez to step up.

“I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever, in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else, where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent. If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all.”    Thomas Jefferson

Pro tip (that I am sure will be scornfully met and written off and/or ridiculed as the rantings of a ‘privileged European’ lol, h/t to OB for that nice description of little old moi)

Refrain from using the words socialist or socialism in it at all when

    1. All you are doing is falsely self-labelling (as it is social democracy that Sanders was pushing and NO, us Nordics are not socialist nations, democratic or otherwise) and
    2.  It also removes a huge, self-manufactured weapon that your opponents on all sides will batter you about the head with (see the 2020 election for proof) in reactionary America.

with whom I’d grown up since early teens, hadn’t seen for a few years, and had hitherto never discussed politics. The elections came up, and when he learned I supported Al Gore, he could not believe I was for The Socialist! (Umm, okay…?)

So yeah, I have little use for the title. Let people continue to believe America is all about “free market capitalism”.

Btw, where the heck is my government “capitalism stimulus” check?
