Tenn. woman who tried to self-abort pleads guilty to felony

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A Tennessee woman accused of trying to end her pregnancy with a coat hanger has pleaded guilty to a felony and was released after more than a year in jail.

Anna Yocca, 32, pleaded guilty this week to attempted procurement of a miscarriage, according to Rutherford County Criminal Court documents. Her baby survived and state officials said the child is OK.

The case was unsettling for abortion rights advocates, who fear that President-elect Donald Trump might try to follow through on campaign rhetoric about penalizing pregnant women who have abortions. Trump also said he would appoint an anti-abortion Supreme Court justice who could be open to weakening or reversing the landmark abortion case, Roe v. Wade.

    3. I'm not sure abortion is accurate here -this happened more than a year ago

and the child is still alive-which means she was pretty far along in her pregnancy however the felony charges are cruel

    4. She made an attempt at 24 weeks

To abort the fetus. How desperate do you have to be to attempt to use a coat hanger to get rid of a pregnancy?

The baby is in an unidentified home not with the mother.

If the supposed right to lifers were real, they would offer to support mother and child until the child is an adult. But no, that would mean putting money where their big  fat mouths are. It’s easies to punish, hate and shame than to actually do something about it.

    7. did you see this?

    from the story:

Police said Yocca filled a bathtub with water in September 2015 and attempted an abortion with a coat hanger. After she began bleeding, her boyfriend took her to a hospital and doctors delivered a 24-week-old, 1.5-pound baby.

At the time, doctors said the child would need medical support the rest of his life because of his injuries.

It’s horrible that she is in the court system for this. I can’t imagine how miserable she must be feeling now, and the the uncertainty and expense of a court trial is the last thing someone in this position needs.
