AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) – While Congress was working out the details on a bill that would provide Americans with stimulus checks, at least one Austin company was looking for ways to save payroll.

“The form says they are preemptively deducting funds from our paychecks. That number is based on what they’re anticipating the government relief fund to be,” a worker for the company told KXAN. The worker asked not to be identified in this investigation so as not to impact his company’s ability to continue doing business.

The worker said his company emailed a form titled “Employee Acknowledgement of ‘Government Assistance’ Pay Reduction” to some staffers on Wednesday. “In response to the economic crisis that is affecting all of us due to the coronavirus pandemic…(company name redacted) are hereby enacting the Employee Emergency Compensation Fund,” the letter stated.

The agreement would put workers under a “temporary compensation reduction that is in line with the assistance that it receives from the federal government related to the COVID-19 pandemic.” By signing the agreement, the company’s employees would have their paychecks between April 6 and April 20 cut by 100% of any money received under the stimulus bill.

They think anything they do to increase their own wealth is just A-OK, no matter who it hurts.

We are an arrogant species, believing our fantasy based "facts" are better than the other person's fake facts.

If you are wrong, it will be because you are not cynical enough.

Both major political parties are special interest groups enabling each other for power and money, at the expense of the people they no longer properly serve…

Of course, most congresscritters have no problem with what this Texas company is doing. They’ll only act if they fear for their seats. It certainly gives Bernie more ammunition. Biden will, at most, politely request corporations to be nice.

The easy solution to this problem is to just cover the payroll for business. Keep the cash flowing, nobody has to make an unemployment claim or lose their insurance. True-up next tax season. Holy shit I swear the motto of the US should change to “We Do Everything the Hard Way”.

Slavery was the legal fiction that people can be property.
Corporatism is the legal fiction that property can be people.

Austin, Texas has one of the main offices of the Internal Revenue Service-IRS.  Perhaps a small group of Left Media journalists could go check this out.

That say since I, as a tax payer gave you a tax cut and a bailout, I will be reducing all future bill payments to you by 20% to cover the cost of my ever increasing tax liability due to supporting your corporate profits.

Of course none of us buy enough to offset the largesse they’ve been given.

They should name the company that’s putting out that form.  If it’s something we can refuse to buy that would be awesome.

The rich hate it when we shame them. Too bad they still get to hoard $.
