That Went Real Well, Didn't It?

You have two choices on this, one is good (yes) and one is bad (no). Remember the lessons learned from Orange Face In Chief before you answer.
So, now you have a couple of big improvements even if you don’t think so.
Trust me. They’re big.
And one little itty bitty loss. Who wanted emoji’s anyway? We’ll come back to that shortly.
For those who have never used one, we now have a tool called a discussion tree. It is based on a title and author link table of replies that follows the nesting of the replies. So the first major upgrade involves the replies themselves.
A reply now has a title. Give it one when you reply, please. You don’t have to, but if you don’t I’m going to make titles to replies mandatory or you can’t post your reply. This is a fact, not a warning. I have gone round and round on this one, and I decided we are mature enough to write a title to our replies without having mommy tell us to. That is for the readers benefit so they can see what your reply contains.
A reply now has a unique url that we can use. As far as I’m concerned, one of the biggest issues of JPR was that you got a notice and the link provided only took you to the topic, not the reply. That is one issue I want killed dead, and the sooner the better. But for that to happen, we had to have a url that the code go go to. If you’re wondering what a url is, it’s what you tye into your browser to go someplace, like jackpineradicals.com. The new tree required for that to now be able to contain a part of the url to go to a particular page and place on that page like a bookmark. So, this feature has a whole lot of good in it. The only place where this is being used at present is in the links in the tree, but we expect a revolution in our notifications code section real soon now, where this feature wil take the member to the actual reply in a topic where another member has made a secondary reply to his/her post. This is going to be done as soon as funds allow for it’s development.
So, a reply now has a title which you will kindly fill in when you reply to something. And it is given a unique url which can be used for many wondrous things eventually. And that gave us the tree.
So what is a conversation or discussion tree?
It is a two column table showing the conversation of replies to a topic and replies to replies of that topic that has the same nested format as the site itself. What is nested? When you reply to a reply, your post is indented to the right of the reply you are replying to. We have the ability to nest up to 6 levels of replies. So the left hand column of the tree is a list of the titles of the replies, showing their placement in the discussion or preserved in the nesting of the discussion. The right hand column is right justified only and is the member name of the poster. Both of these are links.
If you click on one of the reply titles on the left, you are taken directly to that reply.
If you click on one of the member names on the right, you are taken directly to that member’s profile page.
The tree is located below the admin links (the reply and report buttons) that used to be at the bottom of the topic. They’re still down there except now thay lie at the bottom of the text area of the topic and now the tree is placed below them. Here are two screenshots of a tree generated by my last announcement. The first shows where the tree is just below the admin buttons and the second shows where I posted two replies with titles:
Notice that the second reply generated a sub-discussion where it has a nesting of 4. All titles are the title of the topic at this time because all of these replies were posted before the tree was installed here.
This one shows where I made two replies after the tree was installed and I gave them titles.
That is why titles are necessary. You know what the conversation is directly from the titles “100 percent chance” and “Yeah There Was A Glitch”.
But the glitch wasn’t my fault. I swear.
So, go ahead and play with the tree. Once you get used to it, I guarantee that you’ll get to love it and begin to use it all the time.
Now, about those emoji’s.
They’re gone. The plugin that gave us the emoji’s also flaked out the tree. So they went bye bye you might say.
Sorry about that. I’ll do a separate posting on how to do them easily yourself in the Q and A forum tomorrow.
I tired now and am going to bed.

Discussion tree is a splendid thing for me… It’s a good way for a person who monitors a developing discussion quickly.
It should also take about 5 replies upon the OP to see the tree.
Thanks for the explanation of emoji development in Q&A tomorrow…

to start the conversation. Since the emojis rarely worked on my phone they will only be partially missed.

Can the titles be smaller? I like the titles, especially the tree structure right after the OP, but the actual reply titles take up a lot of space.

Everything I post is just my opinion, and, honestly, I would love to be wrong.

It’s a little bit too big.
Also, it still does not help me with the initial posting issue.
I still have to open a new tab, each time I reply to someone.

but that is the first I’ve heard of that particular problem.
Seriously, I haven’t heard from anyone else with this issue.

I use Windows 10 as well as Windows 7.
While using both of those, I use I.E 11, Chrome and Firefox.
Depending on which works. It’s been like that ever since the upgrade. If I want to reply to someone’s response to an OP, I have to open a new tab to the “Reply” link, so that I could even type.
It’s odd, but I’ve just used that work-around ever since.

Why’d it change from Eastern to 5 hours ahead of Eastern, which is the time in the U.K.?

They do, however, kill their humans by knocking electrical devices (like hairdryers and radios) into the tub! 😉
Hope this isn’t off topic. I’m just practicing using titles with my reply. 😉
