Less than six months out from the midterms, Democrats are facing a brutal election environment thanks in part to inflation, general malaise, and the usual desire by fickle Americans to punish the party they put in power two years prior.
New polling numbers emphasize the challenge the party is facing. An NBC survey released on Monday found the Democratic Party with a favorability rating of -19. That was lower than any other person or entity surveyed, including the Republican Party (-11), Vice-President Kamala Harris (-17), and Donald Trump (-16). (Rats and roaches were not included in the poll, so it’s impossible to say if they’re more popular than Democrats.) The party could only dream of matching Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who drew the approval of 62 percent of respondents and the disapproval of only 9 percent.
The numbers match downbeat assessments elsewhere. Democratic favorability has dropped precipitously since last fall, a HuffPost Pollster average shows, and is now averaging about -11.6 percent. Democrats trail on most polls of the generic congressional ballot — though, on average, by only 2.5 points, per FiveThirtyEight’s polling aggregator. The party got more bad news on Monday, with redrawn New York congressional maps erasing much of its advantage there.
The most important number to watch in any midterm is presidential approval, and there’s no comfort for Dems in that department, either. FiveThirtyEight has President Biden’s numbers stuck in the low 40s — very similar to where Trump was at this point in his tenure, months before Democrats gained 41 seats and took back the House.

Try calling the WH and see how restricted the hours are, the busy signals, then the operator who will only talk to you for two minutes before hanging up… Not the greatest path for transparency. Try writing the WH and getting a response. They are worse than the House of Rep’s. About the only body who gets back to you in a timely manner in my state IS the state. Coming in second is the US Senate, all in an election year where no one will discuss the things that are driving Americans away from any trust in the US government.
That is my experience. I haven’t even mentioned the number of issues all these bodies have run on, only to turn their back on those very issues, biggest one being M4A.
Hell, no... I'm not giving up...

Only themselves and how much money they can pocket.
Then we have the far-right loonies on course to take us back to the 1600’s. No one seem to be actually trying to stop them. Least of all the Democrats in power. We are an arrogant species, believing our fantasy based "facts" are better than the other person's fake facts.
If Row vs. Wade is overturned, women could lose the right to not get pregnant in 26 states.
The Republicans are four year olds. The Democrats are six year olds. There are no grownups.
Truth is not what you want it to be; it is what it is, and you must bend to its power or live a lie.

They punish politicians that represent parties that gain control and they do jack shit for the ‘common’ folk.

Rating right up there with rats, roaches and Democrats is the kid with their fingers in their ears, blowing raspberries, yelling at the top of their lungs, “I can’t hear you!” Or was that the Democrats?
If you cannot dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit WC Fields

Inflation? Yes, setting records.
Ridiculous military budgets after an embarrassing exit from Afghanistan?
Being told we’re at war with Russia?
Approving $53 billion or so for Ukraine’s military, without raising the minimum wage?
Talking diplomacy, but escalating Ukraine to the risk of global nuclear war annihilating the planet?
Destroying Ukraine?
And that approval rating for Zelenskyy is from the US. It’s not from Ukrainians. If you can even find enough to ask – at least 20% of every Ukrainian has been displaced either internally or externally. And the phrase “general malaise, and the usual desire by fickle Americans to punish the party they put in power” show exactly why are in trouble – they are so clueless they can’t even recognize the problems they have caused.

This is how they do things. They have no intention of winning. Neither will the Repubs four years from now.

Stuffed with bribes from oligarchs.
I hadn’t thought about it too much, but do you wonder if maybe the real target is to win 49% of either body? No responsibilities but enough control to pose a credible foil?

It’s been how things have worked since Reagan.

Bill Clinton.
Ronald Reagan and George Bush, the prevailing Republicans in the 1980s, carried 44, 49, and 40 states. That means…88, 98 and 80 percentage of the nation’s states.
Since 1992, every presidential winner won between 25 (a 2020 Joe Biden) and 32 (a 1992 Bill Clinton) for 50 to 64 percent of the nation’s states.
This is a controlled electoral pattern. The two major political parties get to avoid landslide outcomes, which can also be observed as consensus results (carrying an average of 4 out of every 5 states), and power can pretend we have a divided nation.
