For some of Donald Trump’s most enthusiastic backers, the chief villain of the Ukraine scandal is not Adam Schiff or Hunter Biden. It’s George Soros. The liberal billionaire has long been a favorite bogeyman on the right due to his support for progressive causes at home and political reforms abroad. But attacks on Soros—including conspiracy theories with anti-Semitic overtones—have grown even more prominent since the start of the House impeachment inquiry.

Last week, during an appearance on Lou Dobbs’ Fox Business show, Republican lawyer Joseph diGenova accused Soros of controlling parts of the State Department and FBI and of using “every lever of the United States government” to take over Ukraine. His bizarre rant came weeks after Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani—who once retweeted a post calling Soros the “anti-Christ”—appeared on several TV news programs to falsely claim that a Ukrainian nonprofit partly funded by Soros’ foundation had fabricated evidence against former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort.
      ———-
In his media appearances, Giuliani has described AntAC as “Soros’ NGO” and falsely claimed it “developed all of the dirty information that ended up being a false document that was created in order to incriminate Manafort.” The document Giuliani seems to be referencing is the so-called “black ledger,” which listed secret payments to Manafort for off-the-books consulting work related to Ukraine. But AntAC did not produce that information and wasn’t responsible for publicizing the document. Artem Sytnyk, director of the National Anticorruption Bureau of Ukraine, and Serhiy Leshchenko, a former member of the Ukrainian parliament, first disclosed the information, parts of which have since been verified by the Associated Press and other outlets. “My desire to expose Manafort’s doings was motivated by the desire for justice,” Leshchenko wrote in a September op-ed in the Washington Post. “Neither Hillary Clinton, nor Joe Biden, nor John Podesta, nor George Soros asked me to publish the information from the black ledger.”
      —————-
Soros’ name has become so toxic in Republican circles that lobbyists—representing clients from Guatemala, Albania, and other countries—have taken to linking US diplomats they dislike to Soros. The Daily Beast reported last week that the attacks are “tailor-made to Trump’s idiosyncratic sensibilities.” Fiona Hill, formerly a senior official on Trump’s National Security Council, was accused by conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone of being a “Soros mole.” During her public testimony on Thursday, Hill called the anti-Soros conspiracy theories an “absolute outrage” and compared them to the notorious, anti-Semitic propaganda known as the Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

Oh, I get it: Now we have to like George Soros and accept billionairism, or we’re the same as the kooky right-wingers.

Soros has been a boogeyman for the hyper-nationalist, far-right for a long time. He is a liberal globalist who is anathema to the nationalist conservatives. The latter will feel the same way to President Sanders when the day arrives.

National issues (slavery/racism, income inequality, pandemics and pathetic health care, weak unions) are not solved with more states' rights. Global problems (climate change, migration, trade, war, pandemics) are not solved with more nationalism.

He’s the right’s Koch brother. Being to the left of Trump does not justify the level of influence he has.

People may want to ask themselves if portraying criticisms of billionaire influence as spreading antisemitic conspiracy theories really the message you want to send? I mean, that is the conspiracy theory, ffs.

Soros openly preaches – and does – corporatocratic oligarchy by billionaires. He’s deeply antidemocratic and has played major role in corrupting Democratic party into Neocon monster.

Good sarcasm needs at least a tenuous connection to reality.

        You nailed it!

Many white supremacists/neo-nazis/alt-righties are positive that Soros is the mastermind and financier behind a Jewish plot to cause the extinction of the white race. the

This is a not so fun take on this long standing RW conspiracy theory, but be careful!  It appears to have been (gasp!) written by evil progressive anti-fascist leftists funded by George Soros himself!!!111!!!

        George Soros

Donald Trump and his Republican cronies blame Soros for just about everything that inconveniences them. They claim Soros has taken over Black Lives Matter to promote socialism.[11] They claim that Soros paid all of the anti-Kavanaugh protesters,[12] because clearly there’s no way that any Americans would be opposed to Kavanaugh without some kind of monetary compensation. They’ve even JAQed off about whether Soros is funding the wave of Central American refugees trying to seek asylum in the US.[13] Sean Hannity brought a guest on his segment to claim that the migrant caravans were an “assault” on the United States sponsored by George Soros.[14] Breitbart hopped on the caravan bandwagon by claiming that Soros was behind a plot to stage a massive anti-Trump protest in April 2017.[15]

The Women’s March? Engineered by Soros.[16] The Mueller investigation? It used resources controlled by Soros![17] Colin Kaepernick? Popularizing the hatred of America on behalf of his “buddy Soros,” according to Tomi Lahren.[18] As fact-checking site Snopes has gained prominence, some conspiracy theorists are claiming that Soros is behind them too.[19] Particularly disgusting cranks claimed that victims of school shootings around the US are in fact crisis actors paid for by you-know-who.[20]

Conspiracy theorists aren’t even above outright altering photographs to suit their agenda. Climate activist Greta Thunberg was accused of being a Soros proxy after pictures circulated of her standing next to him. In reality, she was with Al Gore, and some internet busybodies decided to Photoshop Soros’ head on Gore’s body
        ——–
Infowars has repeatedly claimed that Soros wants to destroy America and the whole world, making videos like “George Soros Is About To Overthrow The U.S.” or ” Trump Pulls World From Brink Of Nuclear War: Soros Outraged”.[10] Viral Facebook memes have been circulated by cranks showing an obviously fake quote from Soros: “I’ve made my life’s mission to destroy the United States. I hate this country and I hate all of the people in it!”[22]

        https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/George_Soros

I’m sure Soros, like every billionaire, has done some unethical things.  But the RW wackos have nothing true or fact based to support their fascist lunacy, so they have to invent bogeymen and other illusions to keep all the RW loonies on the path.

Nice summary of the right’s fixation and paranoia with Soros.

When it comes to Soros, I am certain of nothing – but I suspect a great deal.  Just another rich prick though, if we really want to talk about conspiracies, there are over 200 just like him.  Rich prick club goes by different names and has many conspiracy theories attributed to it – at least some of which are probably true.

If they want to demonize a member of rich prick inc. I cant say I really care.  Soros is among the leaders of the rich prick club that has been screwing us all for decades.  If we, fairly, I think, equate him with the likes of the Koch brothers, perhaps we are slowly coming to understand who the true enemies of the people are.

I dont know about anti-semitism, I think the term gets thrown around unfairly, quite a bit.  Plenty of people are anti Soros, or anti Netanyahu without being anti-semitic.  Unfortunately, the right demonstrates its clueless hypocrisy by worshipping one and demonizing the other.

Fact is, they’re both members of the RPC.  Rich prick club.

      @janboehmermann:

Not quite,Jan. The Kochs are trying to control on the national

level, while Soros works more on the international part. I’ll

never forget how he said once on an interview that chaos is

very profitable. And he must know, since at one time he almost

brought the UK’s financial system down.

Soros Criminal Conviction Exposes “Human Rights” Scam

Soros leverages “human rights” for personal gain – as does his global NGO empire.

      .

      .

      http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/2012/03/surpise-soros-is-convicted-criminal.html

      .

March 28, 2012 – Bloomberg’s report, “Soros Loses Case Against French Insider-Trading Conviction,” indicates that an appeal based on a “human rights” violation against Wall Street speculator George Soros has been rejected by the “European Court of Human Rights.” Soros, who was convicted and fined for insider trading in 2002 regarding French bank Société Générale shares he bought in 1988, has built an empire out of obfuscating global criminal activity with the cause of “human rights.”

Soros runs a global empire of NGOs leveraging “human rights” to cover up institutional criminality just as he himself just attempted to use “human rights” to excuse criminal insider-trading. Soros’ disingenuous use of “human rights” is not a strategy he holds an exclusive monopoly over, but rather one he executes in concert with very unlikely allies – Neo-Conservatives of the US State Department-funded National Endowment for Democracy and its various subsidiaries.

      ….

The court’s decision in rejecting the appeal was based on Soros being “a famous institutional investor, well-known to the business community and a participant in major financial projects,” and thus should have been “particularly prudent” regarding insider-trading laws. The contents of Soros’ appeal, based on “human rights” was not heard, and the details of the appeal not yet made public, however, it is an illustrative example of how Soros and global elitists like him leverage the legitimate cause of human rights and freedom as a means to execute and defend both individual and institutional criminal behavior.

Soros has built a global empire of networked nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) allegedly promoting “human rights,” “freedom,” “democracy,” and “transparency.” His Open Society Institute funds amongst many others, Amnesty International (page 10)Global Voices, and Human Rights Watch. In reality these NGOs constitute a modern day network of imperial administrators, undermining national governments around the world and replacing them with a homogeneous “civil society” that interlocks with “international institutions” run from and on behalf of Wall Street and London. And contrary to popular belief, Soros has built this empire, not against “conservative” ambitions, but with their full cooperation.

It is difficult to find a cause Soros’ Open Society Institute supports that is not also funded, directed, and backed by the US State Department-funded, Neo-Conservative lined National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and its various subsidiaries including Freedom House, the International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI).

      The Arab Spring

It would be almost four months after the beginning of the so-called “Arab Spring” before the corporate-media would admit that the US had been behind the uprisings and that they were anything but “spontaneous,” or “indigenous.” In an April 2011 article published by the New York Times titled, “U.S. Groups Helped Nurture Arab Uprisings,” it was stated:

“A number of the groups and individuals directly involved in the revolts and reforms sweeping the region, including the April 6 Youth Movement in Egypt, the Bahrain Center for Human Rights and grass-roots activists like Entsar Qadhi, a youth leader in Yemen, received training and financing from groups like the International Republican Institute, the National Democratic Institute and Freedom House, a nonprofit human rights organization based in Washington.”

The article would also add, regarding the US National Endowment for Democracy (NED):

“The Republican and Democratic institutes are loosely affiliated with the Republican and Democratic Parties. They were created by Congress and are financed through the National Endowment for Democracy, which was set up in 1983 to channel grants for promoting democracy in developing nations. The National Endowment receives about $100 million annually from Congress. Freedom House also gets the bulk of its money from the American government, mainly from the State Department. “

George Soros and his Open Society Institute also played a leading role in the unfolding unrest. Soros, in addition to fully supporting many of the NGOs in tandem with NED and the US State Department, also funded opposition groups working well in advance to produce new “constitutions” for collapsed nations.

In “George Soros & Egypt’s New Constitution,” it was reported:

Soros Hack Reveals Plot Behind Europe’s Refugee Crisis; Media Manipulation; Cash For “Social Justice”
      .
      .
      .
      .

In the two days since the Soros Open Society Foundation hack by the DCLeaks collective, several notable revelations have emerged among the data dump of over 2,500 documents exposing the internal strategy of the organization, which expose some of Soros’ tactics to influence and benefit from Europe’s refugee crisis, the opportunistic funding and influence of media organizations, providing cash for assorted “pro-democracy” groups including the infamous La Raza, Soros’ funding of various “social justice” organizations while paying to track unfavorable media coverage including that of Pamela Geller.

One particular leaked memo, profiled earlier by the Daily Caller, argues that Europe’s refugee crisis should be accepted as a “new normal,” and that the refugee crisis means “new opportunities” for Soros’ organization to influence immigration policies on a global scale. OSF program officer Anna Crowley and program specialist Katin Rosin co-authored the May 12 memo, titled “Migration Governance and Enforcement Portfolio Review.”

The nine-page review makes three key points: OSF has been successful at influencing global immigration policy; Europe’s refugee crisis presents “new opportunities” for the organization to influence global immigration policy; and the refugee crisis is the “new normal.”

As the authors write in the introduction, one of the purposes of the review “consider the effectiveness of the approaches we have used to achieve change at the international level.” A section of the review titled “Our Work” describes how America’s least transparent think tank has worked with “leaders in the field” to “shape migration policymaking and influence regional and global processes affecting the way migration is governed and enforced.

This may be of particular interest to Germans, the majority of whom are displeased with Merkel’s “open door” policies in the aftermath of the recent terrorist attacks on German soil.

In a section titled, “Our Ambitions,” the authors explain: “Our premise for engaging in work related to governance was that, in addition to mitigating the negative effects of enforcement, we should also be supporting actors in the field proactively seeking to change the policies, rules, and regulations that govern migration.”

They write that “we also believed that advances at the regional or international levels could create impetus for policy change or implementation of existing norms at the national level. We deliberately avoided the term ‘global governance’ because there is no single system at the global level for managing migration.”

The same section later states that IMI “has had to be selective and opportunistic, particularly at the global level, in supporting leaders in the field to push thinking on migration and better coordinate advocacy and reform efforts. We have supported initiatives, organizations, and networks whose work ties directly to our aims in the corridors.”

“Early on, IMI identified a handful of organizations able to engage on migration globally and transnationally, elevating IMI’s corridor work beyond the national level,” reads another section of the memo, entitled “Our Place.”

“These included key think tanks such as the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) and advocacy networks such as the International Detention Coalition (IDC).” (The authors later note that MPI, a strong advocate of amnesty for illegal immigrants in America, “is sometimes criticized for its closeness to governments, [but] flexible funding from OSF has allowed it to maintain some independence from the governments it advises.”)

The memo also notes that “IMI played a central role in establishing and influencing the goals of two new [European Programme for Integration and Migration] sub-funds on the Common European Asylum System (CEAS) and immigration detention.

More importantly, the memo explains how Europe’s refugee crisis is opening doors for Soros’ organization to further influence global immigration policy.

The authors note that “the current refugee crisis is creating space to reconsider the governance of migration and the international refugee regime.” One reason for this is that the developing countries that make up the Group of 77 at the United Nations were motivated by the refugee crisis to keep immigration issues on the “global agenda,” the memo states. “The refugee crisis and the fear that the interests of migrants fleeing poverty, climate change, generalized violence, or natural disaster would be overlooked at these fora have generated a push from G77 countries to ensure other migration issues remain on the global agenda.

They also explain that the current crisis provides “new opportunities” for influencing immigration policy on a global scale.

“The current climate presents new opportunities for reforming migration governance at the global level, whether through the existing multi-lateral system, or by bringing together a range of actors to think more innovatively. Our long-standing interest and investment in global work means we have many of the right partners and are positioned to help others navigate this space.”

The review states, “The refugee crisis is opening new opportunities” for “coordination and collaboration” with other wealthy donors.

Oh but he is a liberal billionaire so he must be good! Really

I am so sick of that kind of thinking george Soros does what is good for him. He plays with derivatives,by disruption. He was a Nazi and does not feel at all uncomfortable with that.
