Don’t take the title too seriously, I was just watching a Youtube video from a channel called “Clownfish tv”. I am in no way attempting to criticize or even to claim to report on their views – they are what is called “normies”, in this case self described moderately left but publicly apolitical. They do pop culture news and movie/tv and comic reviews. If you want to follow where I started thinking today here’s the specific link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArckCzCP_kk

They reported on a study from a group headed by “a Harvard lecturer” (the study’s words) analyzing the political divide. (and why the left is doomed) The study is almost absolutely truthful, except for one common but extremely annoying flaw – it divides people into 7 different groups, but centers around two – “traditional right” (aka the religious/racist right) and “progressive activists” (??? Oh, they mean SJWs) This mistake creates a cascade effect that makes the study all but worthless.

They (the study, not Clownfish) claim that the far right comprise about 25% of the population and that was not enough to control the country. So far so good. The 25% estimate has been common since the 1980s and is supported by polls. The GOP gets roughly half of the half of Americans who vote, no matter how far right the GOP goes in a given race. But that lumps those who accept the far right with those who are actively far rightists. A libertarian shopkeeper is not necessarily a racist, or an abortion clinic fire bomber, but he votes Republican, even though oligarchs are actually the natural enemies of libertarians. However they have a different standard for the far left. “Progressive activists” comprise only about 8% of the population and are loathed by everyone else.

A brief but necessary digression: I believe in what is called the 5 tools theory. There are 5 tools to use to succeed in politics: morality, intelligence, popular support, money, and force. These are mostly self explanatory, except for popular support, which comes from the interworkings of the other tools, and force, which may be anything from the repeal of net neutrality to martial law.

By my analysis the far right uses a bogus claim to morality, (be it religious fundamentalism or libertarianism or authoritarianism) a rejection of intelligence, a claim to public support, and when necessary police violence. But the “Progressive activists” also use a bogus claim to morality in defiance of common sense with social violence. (cancel culture) They are in no way progressive. In contrast the Bernie movement was based on a more legitimate morality, actually cared about reality, and had considerable, almost overwhelming public support. Bernie made the fatal mistake of attempting to deal with the Democratic party. His positions are supported by as much as 70% of the population, and have been since the 1980s, but the Party leadership used force (election fraud) to defeat him, as everyone but him knew they would. (as Arendt said, force only works for so long, but it is a trump card when  used – until it stops working) It is not only inaccurate, it is dangerous to confuse SJWs with progressives, as Hillary demonstrated.

The right has had success not by being a majority – they are only about 10% themselves – but by being accepted by a slim majority of those who still vote. The faux progressives refuse to try that strategy. Instead of deceiving the apolitical mainstream to vote for them they vilify all who are not total believers. By controlling the Democratic Party they are able to block the Bernie movement, but are absolutely impotent against the right. This is by design.

Take heart. Bernie’s policies (essentially New Deal liberalism with a reference to morality) have to a greater or lesser degree of intensity support of about 70% of Americans. No amount of sabotage can hold off such a wave for long. Right wing leaders such as Trump do not have the courage or the dedication to effectively overthrow society, especially once the police start taking a knee, and the SJW’s “everyone who doesn’t conform to everything we say today is dead”  policy only works after the putsch, and then only until the police start kneeling.

nice OP.   i don’t have much to add.   it may be worth noting that given the fed’s history of infiltrating leftist groups, and the company’s history and experience with subverting reform movements, all stops will be pulled in an attempt to hold off that wave.   cold war schmold war this is an ideological war that the left may largely be unaware they are fighting.   it might honestly be easier to sit and wait to pick up the pieces, if possible.

btw i’ve had good luck getting youtube clips to embed into JPR posts using the formatting (youtu.be) generated when you hit the share button on the youtube source clip
