YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — A group of Japanese peace activists is up in arms about Air Force CV-22 Osprey aircraft flying over parts of Tokyo with the barrels of their unloaded machine guns visible.

The Hamura Peace Committee shared its collected observations of flights from Yokota with the Mainchi newspaper, which published the group’s data on May 10. Members of the group told the newspaper they’ve seen the hybrid aircraft with its weaponry visible dozens of times since June 2018.

The tiltrotor CV-22 Ospreys may be armed with one .50-caliber machine gun mounted on the rear ramp, according to an Air Force factsheet. The ramp must be lowered for the weapon to be seen or fired.

      No worries, it’s not loaded.

Here’s another recent article about US helicopter flights at low altitude over Tokyo. It includes a brief video showing flights and flight routes:

Japan reported 178 complaints to US military about low-flying helicopters but to no avail

      May 10, Mainchi

TOKYO — Regarding the issue of U.S. military helicopters flying in central Tokyo at low altitudes that would be illegal for Japanese aircraft, Japan’s Defense Ministry notified the U.S. military about a total of 178 complaints concerning noise and other disturbances possibly caused by U.S. military helicopters, which it received from residents and others in the capital’s 23 wards since the 2017 fiscal year, the Mainichi Shimbun has learned.

The information was disclosed in documents compiled by the Ministry of Defense.

It’s interesting that the Pentagon doesn’t seem to understand that this sort of indifference to the complaints of the local community is actually against their material interests. It really a kind of arrogance or ugly Americanism.

That’s one feature of modern American life that is missing in most poor and third-world countries. (Just in case you were thinking of becoming an ex-pat.)

Corporate America consists of totalitarian entities laser-focused on short-term greed.
