What is the difference between Irish butter and ordinary butter? If you have tried Irish butter, you know it tastes much better. Why is that? Does it come from super cows? And, no, I don’t know why the cartoon cow has only three teats.

Maybe they’re like the Kobi beef cows in Japan, fed beer and massaged. But @nvwino got it. More fat.

Irish butter tastes better because it contains 82 percent fat, as opposed to 80 percent fat for regular butter. Also, Irish cows eat more fresh grass, resulting in a sweeter, more intensely “buttery” taste. Your prize today is this cow sculpted from butter. The lady in the picture is Norma Lyon, who created a butter cow statue for the Iowa State Fair every year for 41 years. The only reason she stopped is because she died. By the way, if you make pie crust or similar pastry, try adding a few pats of Irish butter.

This is true of other “European style” butters too.

If I recall, a Danish butter won the annual competition. Irish butter is available at Costco for a somewhat reasonable price.

Trader Joe’s organic butter. It’s not Irish, but it’s good flavor and a heads of a lot cheaper.

      As a foodie, I must.

What was the one you said also was good, @nvwino?

Hell, no... I'm not giving up...
