Trump acquitted of inciting Capitol attack despite 7 Republicans voting to convict
Mr Trump was not convicted despite seven Republicans joining 50 Democrats in voting ‘guilty’. A further 10 votes were needed to convict as a two-thirds majority of 67 is required under the Constitution…
A total of seven Republican senators voted to convict Donald Trump of impeachment – Richard Burr, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Mitt Romney, Ben Sasse, Bill Cassidy, and Pat Toomey…

But it distracted the public for a few days that Biden and his cohorts are doing diddly squat for the people.

….and possibly do only Hell knows what to them, as well. They did plant a bomb at the RNC as well, after all, so it’s not like they were “only” targeting Democrats.
Not like that would be justified either, of course. But there are those who would be completely fine with the terrorist only attacking the other party.
Most pathetic thing about the vote? Yertle McTurtle voting to let Cheeto off the hook. And then immediately after the official hearing ended, giving a long rambling speech about how fucking GUILTY he was, but Turtle didn’t think he could vote guilty because Cheeto’s no longer in office.
Uh sure Mitch…. and the reason they had to do the trial after he was out of office is because YOU refused to hold the trial before January 20, when you were still in charge of the Senate, you hypocritical shoe-fucking reptile bastard!!

–I’d make a long pronouncement about what a traitorous grifter he is, but can’t top “you hypocritical shoe-fucking reptile bastard!!”

Ex Pres Trump tweeted out a “Thank You” to his defenders.
He further tweeted that this was proof of yet another witch hunt perpetrated perpretrated by the Dems.
Trump then essentially ended his tweet with a promise that he was NOT going away.
Mark my words: Trump will emerge stronger than ever from this.

@pam2
While watching on YouTube I backtracked a bit to catch something I thought that I had heard earlier. While backtracked, there was an updated interuption which showed some Republicans, (Senators?Lawyers?) at a podium.
They were the ones giving us the update.
One of them read Trump’s response directly from his phone.
That was why I thought it was a tweet.

I’d appreciate a link to a recording of the full speech, if anyone happens to see one (just looked but don’t see one yet).
Destruction is easy; creation is hard, but more interesting.

I think that’s more of a motivating factor among Rethugs than a reality, as I’d expect Drumpf’s steroids and probably meth plus anger plus not good nutrition will catch up with him. As for Drumpf dynasty, maybe a faction of R.’s including patriotic Beavises and Buttheads will continue to think Donald Drumpf was cheated out of a landslide and their votes for any further Drumpf will make the landslide succeed next time.
Anyway, outside of impeachment theater, I hope (but have no confidence) that investigations really are happening regarding the poor police protection in DC on the 6th, how the rioters got ahold of very very detailed information about locations of rooms, tunnels, windows, in the Capitol Building, who funded the cigars and the hotel rooms and other travel expenses, who was involved in this apparent inside job and who are the truly nihilist violence-loving riot-meisters who made the worst of this happen and were trying for worse. In a real investigation we’d end up knowing who made it happen and who let it happen.-

No surprise here. But history is not going to be so lenient. Hopefully when that history is written the writers will not forget who voted to acquit him. They are also guilty.

With a superficial investigation of a President who will be out office by the time is held, it’s easily interpreted as a purely political act, just like the previous impeachment.
I believe @chknltl is correct. This has shown that the Democrats were more after political gain as they speak of unity and then malign 78 million voters.

Glad that particular piece of performative political theater is done and over with.
