(The Hill) The White House has officially moved to withdraw the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO), a senior administration official confirmed Tuesday, breaking ties with a global public health body in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.

The U.S. has submitted its withdrawal notification to the United Nations secretary-general, the official said. Withdrawal requires a year’s notice, so it will not go into effect until July 6, 2021, raising the possibility the decision could be reversed.

Sen. Bob Menendez (N.J.), the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, tweeted that the administration informed Congress of the withdrawal plans.

“To call Trump’s response to COVID chaotic & incoherent doesn’t do it justice. This won’t protect American lives or interests — it leaves Americans sick & America alone,” the senator tweeted.

This means the United States can be left out of any international cooperative effort to create and distribute a vaccine for the Covid. Trump’s just throwing a temper tantrum and listening to all those stupid get-out-of-the-UN neocons he’s surrounded himself with.

He is incapable of thinking anything through, except for stirring up his shrinking base on bullshit culture war issues.

Man oh man, the Republicans and other right-wing entities have been attempting to get rid of the United Nations since its inception. It is more fun to watch stupid pet tricks than to figure out what the latest right-wing conspiracy theory concerning the UN. I am sure Trump has made sure to listen to everyone of them, not that he can repeat anyone of them in full or meaning.

As of recent, George Bush II gave John Bolton a recess appointment as the US UN Ambassador. Bolton was as expected, a total ass and embarrassment at the UN. Thank goodness he only lasted a year. The Democrats told Bush do not even brother to try to make Bolton’s Ambassador position permanent, to find a new ambassador.

Now it is Trump’s turn to take a shot at the UN. There have been many of timelines posted here and other places to the COVID-19 event. In January 2020 The World Health Organization and others knew we had a real problem with COVID-19 and made the warnings. Every US Presidential Administration since the discovery Penicillin have sent a team doctors to any hot spot where there was a this or that outbreak. What did Trump do? Trump took staff away from the situation, he did not send a team of Doctors, he did not send a team of Scientist, he did not send a team of anybody who could assess the situation! He did the opposite, he played stupid. And that is what we got, a whole lot of stupid. So now Trump wants to pull the plug on the UN behind a smokescreen of stupid.

Fuck Trump and any other government official who agrees with him in part or whole. This group of people need to be unemployed and looking for a new line of work. Time to get rid of the stupid.

we won’t be able to withdraw form any more of them. 😉

Ain’t isolationism grand? This feels more and more like the Coolidge/Hoover, ‘America First’ 1920’s. Lower taxes, deregulation, immigration barriers, withdrawing from/refusing to join international organizations (the League of Nations among others), a ‘booming’ stock market … some things never change.

National issues (slavery/racism, income inequality, pandemics and pathetic health care, weak unions) are not solved with more states' rights. Global problems (climate change, migration, trade, war, pandemics) are not solved with more nationalism.

@peacecorps It makes me wonder what would have happened if the Great Depression had started in 1932 instead of 1929. Would the Democrats have nominated FDR, or beaten him off with someone more conservative like Al Smith or James Garner, neither of whom would have implemented anything like the New Deal.

It makes me wonder if Bernie Sanders would have won the nomination if the pandemic and associated economic collapse had hit in 2017 instead of this year.

If the Depression had started early in the election year (1932) as Covid-19 did, I suspect the DP would have nominated a more ‘moderate’ candidate than FDR. There would have been on New Deal and history would have been much different – and worse. Perhaps, after 4 disappointing years of a ‘moderate’ Democratic presidency, a pro-fascist republican like Lindbergh would have won the 1936 election and the history of WWII would have been REALLY different.

It is interesting to speculate what Bernie’s chances would have been if the pandemic had hit 3 years before the nomination/election as was the case with the start of the Great Depression. Who knows but I think you are on to something.

Can the United States formally withdraw from the influence/power of the White House?

Who are you? | What do you want? | Why are you here? | Where are you going? | Do you have anything worth living for? | Who do you serve and who do you trust?

      @gryneos
Who knows? I was just thinking that the states on the Great Lakes should just all leave the United States and join Canada, with Canadian laws, systems, and political parties. That certainly qualifies as withdrawing from Trump.

They did install a wall around the White House. We just need to move the sections from the southern border to D.C. and finish the job 🙂
