In a Friday morning tweet, President Donald Trump referred to a group of protesters who brought weapons into the Michigan state capitol building as “very good people” and suggested the governor should strike a deal with them.

On Thursday, hundreds of protesters, many of them carrying guns, descended on Michigan’s state capitol to oppose Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s extension of the state’s stay-at-home order by another two weeks, to May 15.

“The Governor of Michigan should give a little, and put out the fire,” Trump wrote. “These are very good people, but they are angry. They want their lives back again, safely! See them, talk to them, make a deal.”

It is unclear what kind of a “deal” Trump was referring to. While Whitmer moved to extend the order, telling citizens to stay home and keeping nonessential businesses shut, she also relaxed some of the restrictions from original stay-at-home’s order.

But not Dems. Oh no, Dems beat up and pepper spray their liberal base if they even think of protesting for change.

Thanks Obama and Biden for turning the Dems into an arm of the GOP.

Charge him, try him, then throw this dumb motherfucker in prison so he doesnt get more people killed.  Yes – that bunch are definitely domestic terrorists.  Send in swat, or the National Guard, or whatever is needed to arrest these fuckers when they do this shit.

One of the police guarding lawmakers had one of those assholes screaming right in his face.  He was wearing a mask, but…

They are putting many lives at risk – and they are trying to frighten the government and their fellow citizens.  Fuck them.

For gods sake, ARREST THESE ASSHOLES.  The problem with these kinds of people, is that like their hero Trump they have similarities to high school bullies.  You can stand up to them and shut them down – but if you give in and cower, they will get worse and worse.

It is only a matter of time before one or more of them decides to open fire.

Do you think LBJ would put up with this shit? Or Eisenhower, for that matter? So why does the Governor of Wisconsin put up with it? Because the law says they can open carry military-style weapons into the state capitol. No shit. It’s a wackadoodle NRA wet dream law those crazy hillbilly redneck Wisconsinites got through.

Well, that’s one way to deal with it: Wait till somebody gets killed, then defy the law and the courts because you know those crazy fuckers will take it to court. Or, she can just skip the waiting part. Which one would you have her do, David? It’s a good question.

the coward in chief wouldn’t allow armed citizens in the white house, or anywhere near his precious self.

let alone in plain view while he was trying to debate legislation

unless they were *his* armed citizens, then it would be fine

Nothing more. They don’t care if they give us “snowflakes” this hoax virus. They just do not want to be told what to do by some “Dimocrat”.

Is irrelevant.  The law is apparently on their side, along with the President and probably the Republican legislature.  This is why we need serious domestic terrorism laws – that is what these people are.  As for such weapons being permitted in a state Capitol building… I can only shake my head at such idiocy.

I dont know if there is some authority which, given the situation, would permit her to close the building to the public.  This is an urgent situation – and these people are endangering each other and every other person – and multiple surfaces that they come into contact with, even setting aside the fact that they are armed.

So, I dont know – and it apparently doesnt matter what is sane, or intelligent, or simple common sense here.  I will say though, that these kinds of people are eventually going to start shooting.

It only takes one.  Then maybe police or security or what have you return fire, then before you know it…

It is madness to allow this in a state Capitol building.

Honestly?  I’m at a loss.  It isnt just that these people are doing this, but that Republican politicians, right wing media, the President and rich fuckers like DeVos are supporting it openly.

To me, that sounds like incitement of sedition.  It sounds like these assholes are spoiling for a fight… sooner or later, they will get one.

No one, not her, not the “liberal media” or anyone else seems to be calling a spade a spade here.   They call these protests, they call them protestors.  If they were black, the headlines would have read “riot at state Capitol, dozens dead.”

@davidthegnome If they’re spoiling for a fight, even a firefight, sooner or later someone will give them one. That’s just how these things go if they are allowed to continue.

It’s kind of what happened to rightwing militia groups in the 1990s. Ruby Ridge and Waco were at least partially brought on by these people arming themselves to the teeth and brandishing their weapons at anyone they disagreed with. They were spoiling for a fight, and they got one.

They’re fools to think Trump won’t sacrifice them if he thinks that will improve his ratings.

And other assorted weapons. It’s just that those of us who aren’t right wing wackos don’t go around showing them off. Because we’re not crazy and we don’t want some damned fool cop panicking and shooting us. @stockholmer

But if these stupid rednecks think they can just go on shooting rampages without being shot back at, they’ve got another thing coming. We’re Americans, too. We can go just as nuts if we need to. It’s kind of like the berserker rage.

These are some of the ‘good people’ on the conservative side.

National problems (slavery/racism, income inequality, pathetic health care, weak unions) are not solved with more states' rights. Global problems (climate change, migration, trade, war, pandemics) are not solved with more national sovereignty.

A CEO, an American worker and an immigrant sit at a table with a dozen cookies in front of them. The CEO grabs 11 of them, then leans over and warns the worker, "Watch out for the immigrant. He is trying to get your cookie."

Let Trump “make deals” with them. With all his connections at the Pentagon, who knows what sort of mischief….oh wait a minute this might be a really bad idea. Yep, a colossal bad idea.
