Trump Claims He Is Taking Anti-Malaria Drug To Prevent COVID-19 Infection (TalkingPointsMemo)

President Donald Trump said Monday that he is taking the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine in an attempt to prevent against a novel coronavirus infection — despite the Food and Drug Administration warning against using the drug outside of a hospital or clinical setting.
“I happen to be taking it,” Trump told reporters Monday, later clarifying that he was combining zinc with the anti-malaria medication. Trump said he has been taking the medication for a couple of weeks.
“I’m taking the two, the zinc and the hydroxy,” the President said. “And all I can tell you is, so far I seem to be okay.”
Asked why he was taking the drug, Trump responded: “Here’s my evidence, I get a lot of positive calls about it.”
Does he or Doesn’t he, only his Chief Pathologist for Final Diagnosis will know.

With his ideas on science, all we need to do is just wait.
We are an arrogant species, believing our fantasy based "facts" are better than the other person's fake facts.
If you are wrong, it will be because you are not cynical enough.

Either Trump is taking the drug, which can cause hallucinations and heart failure, or he’s irresponsibly lying about it.
On Monday afternoon, President Trump told the press that he’s taking a drug called hydroxychloroquine as a preventative to ward off the coronavirus — a practice for which there is no evidence and that could, in theory, have negative side effects as serious as hallucinations and heart failure.
“I take it,” Trump said. “So far, I seem to be okay.”
Hydroxychloroquine is an anti-malarial drug that a non-randomized study from a French lab, publicized in March, initially suggested could be used as a treatment in fighting the coronavirus. In March, Trump frequently touted the drug, calling it “one of the biggest game changers in the history of medicine.” But further studies have concluded that it is not effective in many cases and should not be routinely used to treat patients.
Trump seems to be taking it not as a treatment for Covid-19 — he’s apparently tested negative — but as a preventative to protect himself from contracting it. There’s no medical evidence supporting the idea that this would work, and the risk of potential psychiatric and cardiac side effects, which are serious, would likely strongly outweigh any (hypothetical) benefits.
CNN report this also. This proves the man drank Drano when he was a kid…

Doesn’t seem like the brightest idea. Well the zinc may help.

(CNN) President Donald Trump claimed Monday he is taking daily doses of hydroxychloroquine, a drug he’s long touted as a potential coronavirus cure even as medical experts and the US Food and Drug Administration question its efficacy and warn of potentially harmful side effects.
Speaking at a meeting of restaurant executives, Trump said he began taking the antimalarial drug after consulting the White House doctor, though stopped short of saying his physician had actually recommended the drug.
“A couple of weeks ago, I started taking it,” Trump said. He later said he’d been taking it every day for a week and a half.
The admission was a dramatic development in Trump’s attempts to promote hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for coronavirus, which began earlier in the outbreak and has been met with resistance from medical professionals.
What a DumbAss!!!

President Donald Trump said he is taking hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malaria drug that he’s promoted as a treatment to combat coronavirus infection, despite government warnings that it can cause serious side effects.
Trump said Monday at the White House that he’s been taking the drug for about a week and half. Vice President Mike Pence’s press secretary, Katie Miller, tested positive for coronavirus on May 8. Trump was not seen in Pence’s company following the diagnosis until Monday, when the vice president joined him for a meeting with restaurateurs.
Trump is a self-admitted germophobe, telling reporters he was wary of shaking hands even before the coronavirus pandemic, and theatrically distancing himself from former patients during press events.
At the same time, he has avoided other steps recommended by public health experts to slow the spread of the virus, such as wearing a mask. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that wearing a mask when social distancing is not possible could prevent people who have the virus but don’t know it from spreading it to others.
Here is the deal, hydroxychloroquine fights a bacterial infection, not a virus. These are two different animals.

I’m not a pharmacist or a doctor, so don’t take my word for it, but I believe hydroxychloroquine is a mild immunosuppressant. That is why it works as an effective treatment for Lupus (an autoimmune disorder).
I believe what you are thinking of is azithromycin, which is an antibiotic. Which in this cocktail of drugs is designed to help prevent pneumonia.
But, why would you take an antibiotic and an immunosuppressant to fight a virus? The hydroxychloroquine is theorized to help prevent what is called a “cytokine storm.” That is sort of a sudden overreaction of the immune system response in the lungs that leads to rapid inflammation and production of mucus which can then cause pneumonia.
It is believed that the cytokine storm may be part of what makes COVID-19 so deadly. Blood samples of people who died of COVID-19 show very high levels of cytokines, far more compared to survivors of the virus. The hypothesis is that in people who die of the disease or become seriously ill, their immune system spots the virus and goes berserk to the point of self destruction. And the lungs radically overreact to the infection. In people who have mild symptoms, their immune system has a more controlled response.
This is all still being investigated and studied. And there is a lot they don’t know about this virus. But that is the theory behind this particular drug therapy.

I am no doctor either. This I can attest to:
Back in 2003 a co-worker had plan a trip to China. He had been planing on this trip for many years and was not going to cancel his plans. After flying into Hong Kong and traveling throughout China, he came back sick. I caught what he had. It took me 5 months, a case of pneumonia and getting my GP doctor to stop telling me to give it another week to get over it. To this day I scar tissue in my lungs from that infection which I believe was SARS.
I also have a hyper-active immune system resulting in hay fever, asthma and headaches know as allergies. Other persons can develop a hyper-active immune system due to environmental conditions: Doctors, nurses, school teachers, pregnant women or anybody who deals with a lot of people close-up. This Cornavirus is known to kill those types of persons. It sucks that a person can be contagious without being sick and give it to others.
These Darwin types who claim people need to just get sick and deal with it are full of themselves. The result is a lot of us are not going to be around next year. It is a waste of human life. Yet people seem to go along with the argument that the economy is more important than human life.
As for Trump taking or not taking hydroxychloroquine, the man is just talking shit. That is all he is, a shit talker. I can say that, you can say that, but for some reason the media cannot, will not, and most certainly spell it out that Trump is just a shit talker. It is really to bad for this country

And if he’s really taking that shit, I probably won’t be waiting much longer for his arrival.
