As President Donald Trump prepared to give his third State of the Union Address Tuesday night, nine conservation groups considered the state of the nation’s environment.
      …………
The statement was written by Alaska Wilderness League Action, Clean Water Action, Defenders of Wildlife, Earthjustice, EDF Action, Friends of the Earth, League of Conservation Voters, Sierra Club and The Wilderness Society. The groups said they decided to release the statement out of concern the president would try to “greenwash” his record during his speech.

“Donald Trump’s administration has unleashed an unprecedented assault on our environment and the health of our communities. His policies threaten our climate, air, water, public lands, wildlife, and oceans; no amount of his greenwashing can change the simple fact: Donald Trump has been the worst president for our environment in history. Unfortunately, our children will pay the costs of this president’s recklessness. Our organizations have repeatedly fought back against these attacks and we will continue to fight to ensure that our kids don’t bear the brunt of the Trump administration’s anti-environmental agenda.”

As of Dec. 21 of 2019, the Trump administration had attempted to roll back more than 90 environmental rules and regulations, The New York Times reported.

Trump is the enemy of all life.

      3 days ago:

ANCHORAGE (AK)— The Gwich’in Steering Committee and allied groups took Trump’s Secretary of the Interior and the Bureau of Land Management to court today for finalizing an illegal leasing program that would hand over the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to the oil and gas industry.

“BLM’s decision to violate lands sacred to my people and essential to the health of the Porcupine caribou herd is an attack on our rights, our culture and our way of life,” said Bernadette Demientieff, executive director of the Gwich’in Steering Committee. “We have lived and thrived in the Arctic for thousands of years. We have listened and learned from our elders, and we know we must stand united to protect future generations, and that means going to court to protect the caribou herd and sacred lands.”

BLM released its Record of Decision on August 17, allowing the leasing of the entire coastal plain. This biologically rich, over 1.5-million-acre area serves as birthing and calving grounds of the Porcupine caribou herd, feeding and molting grounds for millions of birds, and denning grounds for an array of mammals such as wolves and endangered polar bears. The lawsuit charges BLM with failing to comply with laws governing agency processes and protecting land, water and wildlife.

“BLM rushed its analysis, curtailed public participation, shortchanged Indigenous input and concerns, and omitted science and facts,” said Brook Brisson, senior staff attorney with Trustees for Alaska. “The decision-making process has been fundamentally flawed from day one. It’s no surprise that the outcome is a leasing program that flagrantly breaks the law and fails to respect and protect human rights, the public trust, and one of our nation’s most iconic public lands.”

And here I thought that Ronald “Trees cause more pollution than cars” Reagan was bad.

Grover Cleveland is counted as 2 presidents. And John Kennedy and Jimmy Carter were definitely NOT evil. FDR had his issues, but at least he tried to help the folks at home. LBJ also had his issues, but he gave us Medicare, the repeal of poll taxes, and the Great Society.

Trump just shut down the Pebble Mine project,

Trump allowed the courts to adjudicate without interference the DAPL project which led to it being shut down. Two other pipeline projects decided to pull the plug on their plans. Effectively meaning pipelines are losing 3-0 under Trump. Whereas they were winning under Obama and Bush. Turns out the Obama admin had pushed DAPL thru illegally and not followed proper permitting processes and environmental reviews (as in- THE PROTESTORS WERE RIGHT ALL ALONG).

Obama actually opened ANWAR to drilling/exploration. Trump is allowing this to move forward in the way Obama intended it to.

Trump just signed one of the most aggressive pieces of legislation to refund and build up the National Park system. One of the boldest pieces of legislation supporting our National Park system since the Carter admin.

I know it is so easy to go with “Trump Bad”. But isn’t a more honest assessment that Trump is pretty inline with previous administrations and might even be slightly better than them?

And Reagan before him. (and they also would admit Obama and Clinton were worse than their Republican predecessors) The partisans were right, though they are partisans, and those who aren’t partisan are even more right.

Obama actually tried to ADD 5 million acres to ANWR

The Republicans have been trying to drill there since at least Reagan.

      REPUBLICANS, goddammit!

The best thing Trump has done for the environment is wreck the global economy.

@artfromark  – the question was about the environment, not people. In truth, what would be best for the environment is a massive reduction in the number of humans (working or not) on Earth. And that will be coming inevitably , as global temperatures continue to rise.

@n2doc So you can’t even give the Orange Buffoon credit for that.

I think I had meant to post that in a different thread. I have no idea how that ended up here, except that my computer has become pretty quirky recently.
