Trump Signs Social Media Executive Order

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday that could weaken legal protections for social media companies, days after Twitter labeled two of his misleading missives with a fact-check addendum.
The move, which may expose social media companies to liability for what gets posted on their platforms, dramatically escalates a confrontation between Trump and his favored mode of communication, where the president can address his more than 80 million followers directly without relying on news conferences or the traditional media.
Trump and his backers claimed Twitter was suppressing free speech by labeling his tweets, which falsely claimed mail-in ballots would be “substantially fraudulent.” The president typically uses the platform to brag, attack rivals, bolster allies and spread falsehoods.
When a reporter asked at the signing why Trump didn’t simply stop using using the platform, the president retorted, “If we had fair press in this country, I would do that in a heartbeat.”

You would have been exposed as the stupid huckster you are.

Half the country understands he is a huckster; the other half see him as a messiah. So, somehow enough information is filtering through.

Huge Plus One!
I would like to remind you that U.S. health insurance companies do not contribute anything to health care. They are only a PARASITIC middle man receiving an undeserved cut of "FREE MONEY".

No surprise the ACLU will side with the media platforms since there is this little First Amendment thing. Trump won’t win this fight in the courts, but he will be able to stir up his base, which is the point.
Meanwhile, Democrats will be screaming if Trump is re-elected it’s The End of the Constitution, and the media has something else to talk about other than the Great Kleptocrat Theft of 2020, shitty health care, no UBI, mass unemployment, murder by police, riots, environmental catastrophe, etc. Look here! Look here! Big Bad Trump is gonna git y’all!

As for the actual question, are Twitter etc. neutral platforms or do they editorialize their content and act as publishers, you know the answer as well as I do.

“There’s nothing I’d rather do than get rid of my whole Twitter account,” the president said.
President Donald Trump claimed on Thursday that he’d love to delete his Twitter account ― and users on the platform were very supportive of that idea.
The comment came as Trump signed an executive order devised to reduce legal protections for social media companies. In a first earlier this week, Twitter had flagged two of the president’s tweets, which contained unsubstantiated claims about mail-in voting, with fact-check warnings.
Trump ― who generally uses the platform to bash his rivals, spread baseless theories and promote himself and his allies ― declared this move a suppression of free speech and made the apparent move to punish the company.
When a reporter asked why Trump doesn’t simply leave the platform he has so many issues with, he replied, “There’s nothing I’d rather do than get rid of my whole Twitter account.”

You stupid orange turd! If we actually had a fair (and honest) press in this country, then your ass would have been exposed on a weekly basis for all the real crimes you and your swampy administration have committed against the constitution and American people, and then impeached earlier, and maybe even removed from office. Instead, a corrupt and stupid media wasted 3 years on the predictable dead end of Russiagate, which ended up helping YOU and hurting your media “enemies”, you fucking dipshit! Then again, even Trump knows this and is just engaging in the usual republican bashing of the “liberal media”.

then you have no credibility
Censoring the President is stupid. Twitter Karen’s screwed the pooch on this one. Trump should nationalize Twitter and Facebook and turn them into national public utilities. They have no right to censor under the constitution, and they should pay the price.
Can mail-in ballots be fraudulent?

social media site? Something like Twaddle, or Foxbook.
On that type of site, Trump and other fascsts could continue to spew lies freely 24/7, and everyone on the site would believe everything he says, and no one would ever dare to fact check him.
A site where fascists can sit around in a circle jerk, and freely tell lies, and promote their fascist fairy tales and loony RW conspiracy theories among themselves, without ever getting their bullshit called?
Maybe one reason is because no one with even a lick of common sense and a reading comprehension level above 6th grade would pay any attention to it.
But I suspect it’s because the plutocrat oligarchy needs to spread its bullshit propaganda to as many folks as possible, in order to recruit as many gullible, ignorant, semi-literate people from among the general population into the fascist cause to keep it relevant, or the plutocrat oligarchy MIC/Financial Centers won’t have enough popular support to maintain their ownership and control of the US Government or US economic system.
After all, isn’t that real reason why Fox News was developed and created?
Fascists hate Wikipedia, because it is objective reality/fact based to a highly reasonable degree. So they created their very own fairy tale based encyclopedia…..
Why don’t they start their own social media sites as well, and stop participating in social media sites where their bullshit gets fact checked?
That way their ridiculous irrational, annoying bullshit spam won’t have to be filtered out by rational users of existing social media sites.

The truth is, there’s no such thing as being “anti-Fascist.” Either you are a decent human being with a conscience, or you are a fascist.

Twitter is the bad guy here. Twitter is the fascist.
If America had a true press Trump would be a used car salesman – complaining that Hillary only got 25 to life for a laundry list of crimes. And don’t get him started on that President Sanders! But Twitter would never be allowed to consider appointing a hillbot to “fact check” people’s tweets.

If these social media monopolies want to publish and advocate points of view then they should be treated as publishers. Really, they shouldn’t be allowed to exist in their current state as monopolies.
