The Big Easy: Considered essential to national security, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers are expected to work without pay through the partial government shutdown.

However, hundreds of TSA agents are currently staging what appears to be an impromptu protest, calling in sick rather than reporting in to work without pay.

Hydrick Thomas, president of the national TSA employee union told CNN, “This will definitely affect the flying public who we (are) sworn to protect.” According to Thomas, 170 TSA employees have called in at John F. Kennedy International Airport each day this week. At Dallas-Fort Worth International (DFW), the number of TSA employees calling in has increased by 200%-300%.

While union officials have stated the absences aren’t part of any officially organized action, they do believe that those numbers will continue to increase while the shutdown lasts.

Let the people who want to shut down the government clean their own restrooms and take out the garbage.

taking it now while they still can. Most government/labor union contracts have a clause where an employee has the ability to call in sick for a day or two without his employer requiring a doctor’s note.

I don’t blame the TSA people at all. If this goes on past next Friday, I guarantee you a lot more of them will call in sick. The cops used to do it. The old Blue Flu. If enough of them do, legal or not, commercial air travel will be seriously curtailed, and Trump will do something stupid and make it even worse.

      This could be very interesting.

Now is the time for all federal employees who are a part of this debacle to walk away. If it’s at all possible they should strike. The problem here is that with Trump being born rich he can’t relate nor does he care. Spoiled brats stamp their feet and hold their breath until they turn blue. So I think the employees ought to leave their jobs.

We have to do it again. My union has no strike fund, thanks to  the near-worthless bought out bastards at the top of AFSCME. I’m trying to save up just so I can walk out for a month, though two weeks would do it if everyone did. If we did that, the county would be brought to its knees.

There’s fear, of course, but if people are driven to the point that they really have nothing to lose(most landlords will not work with their tenants, so Trump lied yet again, surprise, surprise), they will act.

Most TSA employees make 30-40K a year. They can’t afford to miss a paycheck. If I was in that situation, my attitude to my customers would be “Look, mother-feckers, sorry you can’t take your vacation or business trip, but it just isn’t right to expect me to work for free for your convenience. If you disagree, then I have nothing to lose since my family can’t buy food and is facing eviction, so F you.”

Torches are being lit, pitchforks are being sharpened, vats of tar are being heated, and the chickens are bald.

Trump could get carried out of the WH by an angry mob, as more and more people go hungry, have delayed tax refunds, and are forced out of work just because Trump wants his personal phallic wall monument to himself.

I do realize that AMLO and his tens of millions of supporters in Mexico are crucial for needed radical change in North America. We Americans need the Mexican people, and vice-versa. We both need to rid ourselves of our oligarchies.

Gosh.  What next?  Picket lines?   People singing “Which Side are You On” and demanding pay raises?

      Good for them.

I hope it gets plenty of attention too, at least from disgruntled travelers who tell their friends.

If they follow every rule exactly to the letters thousands of passengers will miss their flights. All they have to do is run a bag check every time they see a questionable image on the x-Ray machine.

Hopefully it will reach the sane repugs brains enough to team with the dems to forcibly go over 45 and the turtle’s heads end this.

That is entirely possible if this thing drags on. Trump just may be stupid enough to do it, too.

Our two party system is a total failure. Our ‘form’ of capitalism is a total failure. Well, it works for a small amount, but devastates the rest of us.

I won’t blame republicans for wanting smaller government, this is NOT that – this is a total dysfunction by the WH and Congress. And now people will suffer – just like they did in 2008, losing house and their jobs. Did dems step up and help stop the Great Pilfering? Of course not! They jumped in!

Forcing people to work without pay is akin to slavery. Shame all the plutocrats on both sides getting paid for already being rich and powerful. Pathetic.

The GOP seems to be okay with people working for free. Yet they whine about sociali-sm. Derp.

The longer the idiots keep this so called partial shutdown going, the worse it will get.  I have to wonder though… given the essential nature of the TSA and various others… what happens if they DO strike?  Do they get arrested and taken to prison or something?

I cant imagine the general public tolerating that.  Now, a lot of people arent crazy about TSA agents (based, primarily, on some pretty stupid regulations) – but its shocking how quickly poverty can bring people together.

If it gets to a certain point, you cant force them all to work – not without threats of violence or worse – and being prepared to carry out those threats.  Even that wont be enough for everyone.

So what happens then? Will the government make “examples”?

Friends, Kelly Conway, and Rush Limbaugh cheer him on, but two Republican Senators have already broken ranks with him on money for the wall and the shutdown. The longer this goes on, especially when flights start getting delayed or canceled in large numbers, the more the pressure on the others will mount.

I know Schumer and Pelosi have their fingers in the political wind, and right now far more people are justifiably blaming Trump for this than they, so they have no incentive to back down. Republicans? Not so much.
