The news is all over the web.

    Newsweek

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) on Wednesday night voted “present” on the first article of impeachment against President Trump.

On Monday, Gabbard said she was still undecided as to how to vote, and was “taking this time for myself to be able to review everything that’s happened, all the information that’s been put forward.” Gabbard is the only member of the Democratic presidential field able to vote on impeachment.

Her move ticked off former Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri, now an MSNBC contributor. When told by anchor Brian Williams about Gabbard’s “present” vote, McCaskill responded, “That’s just stupid.”

Interesting. I wonder if she will explain her reasoning. I am curious to see what she has to say.

Edit to add I knew she preferred a motion to censure Trump. Whatever her reason is, I know it’s not because she’s pro-Trump or thinking of becoming a Republican. It probably has something to do with her disgust for the Democratic leadership, which I fully understand.

She apparently voted “present” on both articles, which have now passed. The Orange Asshole is officially impeached.

I didn't refuse to vote for Hillary Clinton because any goddamned Russian told me to. I refused to vote for her because she is a warmongering, election stealing, Goldman Sachs fellating, Republican WHORE. No offense to sex workers.

I wonder how her constituents feel about her choice to ignore Trump.

Betrayed, sold out, disgusted, and angry, naturally.

Trump is guilty, and she damn well knows it.

She effectively voted for the guy who said, “I would bring back waterboarding, and I’d bring back a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding,”  during his campaign.

He said it, while the guy who actually did it, walks free as can be, and the guy after him, along with his useless party who let him get away with it, lectures all of us. I guess Tulsi just isn’t a Blue no matter who, huh?

If she voted against getting rid of Trump by giving him a slap on the wrist and a disdainful look I’d consider her neither blue or red but simply another political blowhard trying to get noticed by appearing to be the “moderate” voice.   Kinda like Joe Biden and Pete.

She does not ignore Trump at all. If you can remember

the Nixon impeachment, then you know that it was not

a partisan effort. If the Dems had really a sound legal

standing on this one, it also would not have been a

partisan effort. However, they did not have that, and

Turley made this quite clear. And the fact that CIA

personal started this whole issue should make every

reasonable person question the whole rather unprecedented

proceeding dubious. We now just get the first glimpse

of the FBI’s mishandling the FISA court applications

which started all of the ridiculous Russia-gate. Thus

Tulsi was reasonable and careful in her judgment on

this second effort by the Dems. Hatred of any POTUS

should not be enough for one party to remove him

with flimsy accusations. Pelosi let W, a warcriminal

get away with it, which was at least tenfold worse.

I like what you said, Sadoldgirl, and I too, understand Tulsi”s position. And, no, she is not voting in favor of Trump, she is voting against the partisan rage and hysteria over Trump’s election. She distinguishes herself here in an appropriate manner. She recognizes that Trump has done monstrously horrible things, but those are not that which they have impeached him, and she recognizes that it is a totally partisan act, which it has been. I wish these Democrats had “resisted” more strongly the recent military budget, but that is not what their “Resistance” is for.

I wholeheartedly supported Trump’s impeachment, but I’ve been disgusted and disappointed by the Democrats’ utter mishandling of the process. Impeachment is by definition a political remedy, but I’ve been dismayed at how Democrats have severely limited the articles and used those few to score partisan points rather to uphold their pledge to preserve and protect the Constitution.

I’m not Tulsi obviously and had I been a member of Congress, I would’ve probably voted Yes on each count. But given my objections to the way things have been handled, I can certainly envision a scenario where I might’ve voted Present instead. After all, it seems to me that if you watch Fox, you vote No, and if you watch MSNBC, you vote Yes. I don’t watch either.

If the trend of the impeachment just making Trump more electable continues, then many Democrats might rue not having backed Gabbard’s proposal to censure Trump. And if Biden is the nominee and Trump destroys him, then Gabbard will come off as having been prescient regarding the farce that Schiff produced in the House.

The party compelled Bernie to read from their catechism regarding Russia! (“Be a shame if Jane spent years in court”), and if he’s the nominee he’ll have the albatross of a botched impeachment around his neck, and he’d have to defend it. And that would likely include having to defend Joe and Hunter Biden. And by extension he’d also have to defend Clinton’s team having Steele outreach to Russia, Her connections to Ukraine, and Her and Bill grifting Russia.

This impeachment has been about the Democratic establishment solidifying their position, and maintaining their fund raising.

Ha, I just checked my email there was a link to a survey from her campaign, yadda, yadda, I checked off the box for ending the wasteful and interventionist wars. Foreign lives matter, sorry Hillary, and so do the lives of our people who serve. No surprise that there was a donation link, and I sent $10 though I know I’m going to feel compelled to donate again if/when the email comes that explains her vote of being present.

Tulsi from day one said this impeachment will even further divide the country.

    I think she’s right.

This should have been a censure. I think Democrats are going to pay a price next November.

I had to laugh my pointy tailed ass off at all the Republicans whining about how “partisan” this impeachment was.

Uh…. your party impeached Clinton for getting his dick sucked. Now THAT is some serious partisan bullshit!

If you had impeached him for NAFTA, repealing Glass Steagal, or the FAUX/Comcast/Clear Channel enabling act, that would have been a different matter.

I didn't refuse to vote for Hillary Clinton because any goddamned Russian told me to. I refused to vote for her because she is a warmongering, election stealing, Goldman Sachs fellating, Republican WHORE. No offense to sex workers.

@satan Thank you for expressing some concrete issues!  I still believe the Telecommunications Act of 1996 removing media ownership limits is a major reason we have a deeply divided country.  But it wouldn’t be impeachable then or now, as it’s what the corporate wings of the major parties wanted.  And now there’s only corporate major parties.

I’m ok with Gabbard’s present vote.

It is not like Tulsi is supporting Trump here. It is more like she is waving at Speaker Pelosi…. with one finger.

Yes, there were good reasons to impeach Trump.

No, Pelosi went with two poorer reasons to impeach Trump.

Yes, there were even much MUCH more important reasons to impeach Bush jr.

No, she deliberately sold America out by taking impeachment off the table as her first act as Madam Speaker.

Her stance on anti-war tells me that Tulsi Gabbard is well aware of what Pelosi didn’t do with Bush jr but now does with Trump.

Ask yourself this: How many folks have died worldwide due to Trump’s wars? How many died just in Iraq alone because of Bush’s lies?

For extra credit: could the likes of Trump have even come to power had the Bush Family Evil Empire been investigated through full impeachment inquiries?

I shall never forgive Pelosi for this.

This particular impeachment is a farce-a sideshow, nothing more.

I believe Tulsi Gabbard is thinking along those same lines.

(I wish to edit in something to my above response.)

If somehow humankind survives long enough, it might view that there was a key turning point…

…a turning point where the world came to respect the United States vs one where the world came to hate it…

…a turning point where the world came to hate us at least as much as it did Nazi Germany, perhaps hate us even more.

That point was when the Democrats under President Bush took control of the House with it’s first female Speaker.

    Speaker Pelosi.

It was at this point in world history that our country could have undertaken a serious investigation into the hows, the whys and the wherefores of the Bush Family Evil Empire’s lies and mass deceptions that led our country back into Iraq.

President Bush stands accused: Over a million Iraqi citizens displaced, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens dead!

Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 Madam Speaker!

We know that now but thanks to the propaganda at the time much of our country thought otherwise.

Bush said that we needed to go in and relieve Saddam Hussein of WMD.

THERE WERE NO WMD IN IRAQ MADAM SPEAKER!!!

I ask you dear reader: If you were directly responsible for a car crash, would you stop to render aid or would you simply drive by as if nothing happened?

When Nancy Pelosi rose to power as the first female Speaker of the House, the Republicans were horrified that she would start impeachment hearings on President Bush.

Instead, as her first act, she took impeachment off the table…

…instead our country drove by the horrific accident that was done by our country to Iraq.

This was no accident. What the Bush Crime Family did was deliberate.

What Speaker Pelosi did was deliberate too.

She told the world that our country found it just peachy to drive by the carnage we did to the Middle East.

Someone once pointed out to me that the Nazis broke no laws because they went by the laws that they created along the way.

Will that be how history views the United States?

No harm, no foul because Speaker Pelosi said so?

Under such illusions here in our country, President Bush jr and his administration got away with their crimes against humanity.

Under such illusions President Obama continued them.

Under these very same illusions President Trump was able to rise to power.

Trump continues the chaos and carnage in the Middle East with false flag attacks and accusations that Iran may create a WMD.

This all at your feet Madam Speaker, this all at your feet when you took impeachment off the table.

I do not know what truly was in Tulsi Gabbard’s mind when she voted present.

Given her anti-war stance, an anti war stance I happen to agree with, I would not be surprised to learn that Tulsi’s vote was a big “F-YOU” aimed directly at Speaker Pelosi.

If that was indeed the case, my hat is off to Tulsi Gabbard.

    Nuff said.

I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again. If the Democrats wanted to prove that they were impeaching Trump for the good of the country not just for partisan gain, they should’ve thrown the Bidens under the bus as proof of their sincerity. Being put in the position of having to defend the obviously corrupt Bidens in order to support the impeachment of the most corrupt president in my lifetime disgusts me.
