This one qualifies for the COVIDiot files… just wow.

“Several college students in an Alabama city organized “COVID-19” parties as a contest to see who would get the virus first, officials said.

Tuscaloosa City Councilor Sonya McKinstry said students hosted the parties to intentionally infect each other with the new coronavirus, news outlets reported.

McKinstry said party organizers purposely invited guests who tested positive for COVID-19. She said the students put money in a pot and whoever got COVID first would get the cash.”

How many will live most of the rest of their lives disabled? How many will be dead by 30? How many are risking double lung transplants, assuming they can afford that and collage too? How many other people will they infect?
We are just starting to find out what kind of damage this virus can do to human beings. Stupid Trumpsters.

We are an arrogant species, believing our fantasy based "facts" are better than the other person's fake facts.

it would be a good thing. Unfortunately it doesn’t discriminate on that basis.

I won’t blame it on just being in the south. I think it’s a reflection of our society as a whole and the Randian, anything goes, market based leadership that the media reinforces at all times.

And now there is some reports that the loss of taste and smell may be related to the virus attacking parts of the lower brain, specifically the hypothalamus. Covid sucks, Job 1 is not getting it.

I’m guessing this is bullshit propaganda or manufactured moral panic.

They tend to see war and killing as adventurous and take little heed to the fact that they may end up dead or maimed.

      Same for the party-goers.

Because its something thats easy to research independently (verify the invitations, find the organizers/college students) but no independent research was done, the only sources are a city councilperson & the fire chief who cite each other or ‘doctors offices’ and ‘the state,’ ‘news outlets’.  There’s no chain of citation, it’s circular.  Makes it sound like its very widespread v. one dumb party.  No good cites, no independent research, unverifiable.

She said the students put money in a pot and whoever got COVID first would get the cash.

Tuscaloosa Fire Chief Randy Smith confirmed the incidents to the City Council Tuesday.  The department thought the parties were rumors but Smith said after some research, the department found out the parties were real.  “We did some research. Not only do the doctors’ offices confirm it but the state confirmed they also had the same information,” Smith said.

Smith didn’t say whether actions would be taken against the students. He also didn’t say which schools the students attend.”

sounds like the city councilperson made the accusation, the fire chief ‘investigated’ & then ‘verified’ to the rest of the city council & it went from there, but that’s just one hypothesis.  but if someone wanted to actually investigate, they wouldn’t be going through the state or doctors offices (doctors have a confidentiality requirement just for starters)
