More than 100 large wildfires are burning across nearly 2.3 million acres of the U.S. West, as forecasters warn Americans to brace for another extreme heat wave this week.

Driving the news: “Widespread air quality alerts and scattered Red Flag Warnings stretch from the Northwest and Northern Rockies to the High Plains, as well as throughout parts of central California,” the National Weather Service said Sunday.

“It’s going to be a real oppressive week with dangerous heat and hot conditions across much of the U.S. Excessive heat watches are up across much of the Pacific Northwest for mid to late week, including in the Portland and Seattle metro areas. Meanwhile, heat advisories are in effect for a good part of the south-central U.S. and parts of western New York state.”

State of play: 107 large fires were burning across 15 states on Sunday, with weather conditions already dangerous, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.

I wonder if there is a world map that shows all the fires around the world at this moment? Here in MN we are very aware of the ones in Canada because our climate is now smog! Smoke from their fires and the sun only shows up once in a while.

Not sure just where the smoke is coming from, but I know the feeling when my eyes sting from it.

According to a new Climate report Denver was yesterday

the worst polluted city in the world. I stayed home and will

do so for a few days. My dog will just have to wait that long

for our usual walk. While the sun is not red, it is of a deep

orange.Since this is the second over smokey year I ordered some

N95 masks for future use. It obviously won’t get better, since

Climate Change will take its toll.

I remember smoky days like that, but they were from local wildfires and never lasted more than a few days. Now it’s been going on for weeks. If we’re getting it in Ohio, I can only imagine and remember what it must be like now.
