U.S. to pull out of UNESCO, claiming agency has anti-Israel bias

U.S. officials have told the Associated Press that the United States is pulling out of UNESCO, after repeated criticism of resolutions by the U.N. cultural agency that the Trump administration sees as anti-Israel.

The U.S. stopped funding UNESCO after the agency voted to include the Palestinian Authority as a member in 2011, but the State Department has maintained a UNESCO office at the agency’s Paris headquarters and sought to weigh in on policy behind the scenes.

The withdrawal was confirmed Thursday by U.S. officials speaking on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to be publicly named discussing the decision. It comes as UNESCO is voting to choose a new director.

    1. "anti-Israel bias" = Not letting Israel get away with breaking UN resolutions.

So, the US stays on the same ignorant path of enabling a rogue country, a path that is not in the best interests of the United States.

DemExit! Don't give the Democrats a dime. Don't identify as a Democrat. Drop Democratic identification below 20%. Only then will they support true progressive policy. Until then, corporate money rules.

    2. What part of the UN is UNESCO? Is that the one that works on justice and

social issues? That would be about more than Israel, it would be about the kind of greed that says “we cannot take care of Puerto Rico forever”.  These kind of actions on the part of Rs and Ds gives us a good idea of what they really think of helping in any disaster. MAGA.

    3. Great news.. Now UNESCO doesn't have to listen at all to anything

    the U.S. has to say.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations based in Paris. Its declared purpose is to contribute to peace and security by promoting international collaboration through educational, scientific, and cultural reforms in order to increase universal respect for justice, the rule of law, and human rights along with fundamental freedom proclaimed in the United Nations Charter. It is the successor of the League of Nations’ International Committee on Intellectual Cooperation.

    4. Since Israel doesn't abide by ANY UN resolutions,

perhaps it will follow the U.S. out the door – and good riddance – to both.

However, some might miss the outrageous and hysterical antics of Israel’s UNESCO delegate, Carmel Shama-Hacohen . . .

BACKGROUND for context of two YouTube videos:   The Palestinians requested a UNESCO resolution that Hebron’s Old City be declared as an area of “outstanding universal value,” given “heritage status,” and placed on its World Heritage Danger List.

Hebron’s Old City is in the occupied West Bank, and home to more than 2,00,000 Palestinians and only few hundred Israeli settlers who make the lives of the Palestinians hell. The Old City is home to an ancient burial cave, known as the Ibrahami Mosque to Muslims, and Tomb of  Tomb of the Patriarchs to Jews, venerated in both religions as the grave of the biblical Abraham, his son Isaac and grandson Jacob.

The Heritage Site resolution was fast-tracked because there was evidence that the site was under threat, with a shocking number of incidents of vandalism and damage to the property caused by settlers.

By listing sites on its World Heritage in Danger list, UNESCO seeks to mobilize the international community to protect them, and can also provide immediate World Heritage Fund assistance to the property – meaning $money$ for preservation, restoration, protection, oversight, etc.

In July 2017, UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee held its annual meeting in Krakow, Poland, where UNESCO declared that Old City of Hebron is an endangered world heritage site, where HYSTERIA soon followed:

    5. It's officially a thing. Say anything, something that doesn't

conform to the reality they’re pitching and your an anti semite. Mention Soros or Rothchilds in any slight and your an anti semite.

If one can’t separate the individual from the race, then one might have a problem. IMHO

As an Asian Pacific Islander/Caucasian mix, I’ve been called numerous things and have been slighted in many ways with various races. I don’t understand the obsession of “Race” and I don’t want any part of it.

      7. [snark] It's what I would expect from an antisemite[snark]

Fortunately, this throwing about the term antisemite is losing, or has lost, its sting so who cares if one is called an antisemite? – doesn’t mean diddley except to the Israelis who hurl the epithet.

    6. designation of hebron as a world heritage site

saving it from settler bulldozers sounds plausible but

doesn’t trump claim to be “born again” to his fundie followers? the zionists do not want the temple mount to be protected until they build their temple and restore the animal sacrifice.
