The following video is from a campaign message of Tulsi Gabard’s father and features the family as part of the message.

      Quite a homophobe, wasn’t Dad?

Sure looks like Tulsi was the first girl who said nothing. Looks like the sister had something to say, though.

Hell, no... I'm not giving up...

        It Gets Worse.

Supposedly, per SV, Gabard is reported to have channeled some of this sentiment when serving as a Hawaii state legislator.

As a member of Hawaii State Legislature, in 2004 she spoke out against “civil unions” – in no uncertain terms.

She says her experience abroad changed her views and says her transformation has nothing to do with politics.

She recalls her time in Kuwait, and seeing women “covered head to toe in burqas,” while she became one of the “first women to set foot on their military bases.” Some people greeted her warmly, she said, while others would not acknowledge her existence.

She said “I met people who I reached out to shake their hands and they said, ‘No, I don’t want to shake your hand because I’ll dirty myself.’”

Ultimately, the experience gave Tulsi a “newfound recognition of the absolute importance of keeping church and state separate,” she said.

Maybe So – yet our experience as Citizens is that fundamental proclivities are typically inherent in the individual.  Best recent evidence – Obama – mister Hope and Change himself.  In the end he turned out to be nothing but a NeoLiberal shill despite all the warm rhetoric.

Yet her voting record on lgbtq issues is 100%.

Personally, I will need to see her disown her clearly bigoted Republican father on this matter.

Bill Clinton signed discrimination into law (Defense of Marriage Act) and Hillary Clinton was ok with that and later, slow to accept lgbtq rights. Yet when she ran in 2016, she was considered a champion of lgbt rights. The hypocrisy is glaring.

All the more reason for a clear statement from the candidate disowning her father and possibly her family on this issue.

I suspect that most everyone that I know, who is over 30 yrs old, comes from an anti-LGBT family.

LGBT folk like myself have had to learn that people really can change, once they come to the realization that their homophobia/transphobia was insidiously inserted into their consciousness by ignorant religious and subsequent social institutions without their knowledge or consent.

Many people were taught to hate LGBT through repetitive indoctrination of hate promoting religious dogma that bled through the ages and became culturally institutionalized, resulting in societies whose children experience intense peer pressure to hate LGBT, right from the cradle.

The more fortunate among us realize at some point that their hatred for LGBT is a product of institutionalized cutural ignorance, and begin the process of ridding ourselves of the destructive mental toxins of irrational hatred for LGBT.  It takes awhile, but the end result of the cleansing of this hate poisoning is,

“Oh, geez, WTF was I thinking? I’m so sorry!”

Personally, I know where it comes from, and I forgive it all.  That doesn’t stop me from asking everyone to join the LGBT community in actively working to help prevent the spread of ignorant hatred by conservatives who are intent in legalizing hatred toward LGBT.

We may not be able to change all hearts and minds, but we can stop the ignorant conservative element among us from legalizing hate, injustice, inequality, and persecution of innocent people.

So yeah, Tulsi said what she said, and felt what she felt, in the past.  She’s just another one of tens of millions. She came to the realization of just how senseless and destructive, both personally and collectively, that her words and actions were, an came to the point where she said

“Oh, geez! WTF was I doing? I’m so sorry!”

Yeh, well, ok. I forgive you. All of you.  (You know who you…were).  Unconditionally.

Please, consider actively helping the LGBT community heal, and repair some of the damage that all this useless hatred has caused us, including preventing the spread of hate that will harm millions of LGBT children in the future if we don’t stop the haters.

The truth is, there’s no such thing as being “anti-Fascist.” Either you are a decent human being with a conscience, or you are a fascist.

Healing – All the more reason for the candidate to put this to bed with a very strong and forceful statement disowning her father and possibly her family on this issue.  By not taking a strong and unambiguous stand on this matter, the speculation on her actual position will only fester.

At present that ticket would be unacceptable to this Citizen.

Agree with you.  I guess I’d need to see who the opposition is, and how close it was expected to be.

I like most of what I have seen of Tulsi Gabbard’s record, but homophobia will always be a dealbreaker for me.

She publicly changed her position and votes pro lgbt. That should be good enough, imo. I have some reservations about her, but this isn’t one of them. I see no reason to believe that she would try to enact any kind of crazy fundie policies if elected. We may never know what is in her heart on this issue, but who cares? It’s what she does that matters.

Besides, there is absolutely no way that this will be not used as a smear against her if her campaign takes off, so I’m sure she will have to address this further.

So as per the SV crpw only Hillary can evolve and do no wrong. SV always wanted to destroy Tulsi. The same they did to Bernie I am just glad that they don’t claim Bernie was Hitler in his past life

Never expect different result by following the previous steps

The video of a television ad justifying homophobia is real.  The prior positions on homophobia are also apparently real.  The candidate needs to address both.

I take this seriously, and I won’t vote for her, as a result.
