Why do I hear about this from RT first? It’s not even mentioned in Google News. This story is at https://www.rt.com/news/545741-doj-forms-domestic-terror-unit/ .

The US Department of Justice has created a special squad to target homegrown extremism, citing a rise in “anti-government and anti-authority ideologies”

The DOJ is ramping up its efforts to combat domestic terrorism, forming a specialized unit to address what it sees as growing threats of attacks from within the American populace.

The department already had a counterterrorism section in its national security division, but Assistant Attorney General Matthew Olsen told US lawmakers on Tuesday that a new group of lawyers was needed to “augment our existing approach” and ensure that cases are coordinated and handled properly across the country.

An FBI official, Jill Sanborn, said at Tuesday’s Senate hearing that the greatest terrorist threat comes from lone extremists who seek to carry out domestic attacks after being radicalized online.

Parents who are angry over politically charged school curriculums may fit that description, according to the National School Boards Association, which sent a letter to Biden last September asking for Washington’s help in responding to threats against education officials. The group likened some of the heated protests to “domestic terrorism.” Attorney General Merrick Garland responded a few weeks later, ordering an FBI crackdown on threats against school officials.

Sounds like we have to be very careful what we say publicly.

Since they cited school board meeting disruptions as an example, it’s not terrorism for somebody to verbally disrupt a meeting and say something pathetically stupid. But if that person then says “I’m gonna come to your house and kill you, you commie socialist son of a bitch. Critical Race Theory is against the Bible, goddamn it!!” then that would constitute a terrorist threat.

Videos of the recent school board disruptions have included examples of both. I probably wouldn’t even arrest the verbal protestors, but I would politely ask them to leave if they weren’t contributing anything to the discussion. But when it escalates to violence and/or credible threats of violence, that’s a different matter.

Yes, threats of violence need to be investigated. But then, we already have the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security. Now there’s one more agency with the Department of Justice having its own unit, all interpreting one set of laws, but I suspect difference agency requirements in the Code of Federal Regulations.

In fact, I remember actual terrorists being caught at the border by ordinary law enforcement before 9/11. So the old system worked just fine…apart from nobody searching for boxcutters at airports (if you believe the Bush Crime Family’s account of that day)

I was speaking to the issue of actual terrorists and what to do about them, not the creation of another agency to do it.

      I highly doubt that.

But some crazy RW radio talk show hosts are convinced that is the case.

Crazy parents who bring flex cuffs to school board meetings or make death threats to teachers teaching “CRT” will be handled by the local gendarmes (po).

How TF does one become radicalized online?

Hell, no... I'm not giving up...

IMO, like the FBI and the CIA, something like this will start coloring outside its official lines pretty quickly.  This is just giving law enforcement and the government more powers.  Questioning authority is going to be the issue, methinks.

When @satan says, IMO kind of naively,

There should be some clarity on what does and does not constitute “terrorism”

I think that there will be deliberate shades of gray, depending on who or what is in the cross hairs.  There is no clarity in the government, except for denials of actually serving the people.  That is not what our government is there for.  IMO, Biden’s vision of ‘unity’ is ‘everybody is quiet and obedient’.  Terrorism will be whatever the government decides is terrorism, and could change on a daily basis.  And once we accept this kind of thing into our homes, it never moves out, as someone intent on war with Russia has said.  I wonder when we will be encouraged to inform on each other.

Everything I post is just my opinion, and, honestly, I would love to be wrong.

"black flag" is an inadvertent mash-up of black ops and false flag. . I think it is accurate, and I will keep it. Thanks to those who pointed it out!

Things have just kept on going downhill.  They will use the riot, or attempted coup, as some call it, to justify all kinds of things.  They will say “matters of National security”.  The NSA, FBI, DEA and so on and so forth, are just going to have more power.  This specific unit being referred to makes me think of McCarthy’s old group of pals.  The ones that happily ruined the careers and lives of anyone they claimed was a communist/Russian sympathizer.

      History echoes once again.
