I believe that this is ALL campaign blather, and will be tossed within seconds of a Bide/Vichy Dem win. Just bait-and-switch designed to reel in progressives. Honestly, nothing Biden could say would induce me to vote for him. Been there, seen the lies.

      Hi rr,

All this former Bernie supporter can surmise is that Bernie has become delusional.

Neither does Sanders at this point.

Biden can easily win in a landslide without any progressive support. And rest assured his supporters will tell us they don’t need to do anything for us after the election because we either voted for the SOB or didn’t and he won anyway.

Biden is signaling a teensy-weensy shift in the progressive direction, just enough to give many progressive voters hope that he will get really fired up after the election and support M4A, comprehensive criminal justice reform, etc. Sure. Remember when we thought that about Obama? Twice? And we are stuck with the usual lesser-of-two-evils choice, and the greater of the evils is pathological. So Bernie is right. Many people who support him will vote for Biden. Not me, and that does not mean I like Bernie any less. I just can’t stomach being exploited and manipulated by the Democratic Party again. Sorry, Bernie,

Not only will many Bernie supporters vote for Biden, the vast majority will, but would have anyway, whether Bernie asked them to or not, just like 2016.

Most are Democrats or lean Democratic. I held my nose in 2016 to vote for HRC because of Bernie. I won’t do that in 2020. It does’t matter if Biden or Trump win in November. We the People will be the losers. Neither care about helping ordinary Americans.

      Don’t forget the midterm elections!

Just like his same-party predecessors, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, a president Joe Biden can deliver at least the United States House of Representatives—as soon as 2022—to the Republicans.

Please vote for us, Dear Progressives! Help us keep the evil Republicans from winning back Congress. Now is not that time to argue over our differences. You have to be responsible. This is the most important election in our lifetime.

      @colorsoftherainbow:

Here you go with the voter shaming, which I resent

very much. Since I believe that we have essentially a

uniparty with carefully framed differences (divide + conquer)

and that Biden is nothing more than a puppet of the oligarchs,

I think that I am not irresponsible to vote for neither branch

of this party. I will vote for or against amendments and leave the rest.

I don’t know whether my vote will be counted, but if it will be then

at least I won’t have supported war mongers or oligarchs. To me

that is a responsible vote, as I am not a sheep.

I think progressives would get what they want by demanding it a little at a time as a precondition for their votes as a block in the general elections, both Presidential and Congressional. I’d say make the nominees earn your vote. That includes Biden. If he were to step up on M4A, or any two of Green New Deal, Tuition Free College, or No on TPP, then I’d vote for him in November. If there were several million more voting exactly the same way, then we’d actually get at least something, even from Biden. But as it stands now, Biden would rather court anti-Trump Republicans than the progressives, mostly because too many of the progressives have bought into the “Vote Blue No Matter Who” nonsense. Most likely I’ll be voting either Green or ‘none of these candidates’ if the Greens fail to get on the Nevada ballot.

progressive. And, you know, you can’t retract your vote. Once the election is over, the voters are forgotten. the DNC will have gotten what it wanted.

Literally nothing Biden/any other Vichy Dem could “promise” that would get my vote. Green it is. Or maybe I will write in Ventura.

“We have to be true to ourselves and acknowledge that Biden is a mediocre, milquetoast, neoliberal centrist that we’ve been fighting against in the Democratic establishment,” Cornel West, the Harvard University professor and a Bernie Sanders supporter, told me.

If Sanders’s primary voters stay home on Election Day out of pique, that could damage Biden’s chances, especially in must-win swing states.

Nina Turner, a co-chair of the Sanders campaign, told me she has no appetite for the choice she faces: “It’s like saying to somebody, ‘You have a bowl of shit in front of you, and all you’ve got to do is eat half of it instead of the whole thing.’ It’s still shit.”

      https://www.forbes.com/sites/alisondurkee/2020/07/27/hundreds-of-democratic-delegates-vow-to-reject-platform-if-it-doesnt-include-medicare-for-all/#6c584f6f1bda

With the Democratic National Convention approaching in August, a growing number of Democratic delegates, led by Senator Bernie Sanders’ Nevada delegation, are joining a pledge to reject the Democratic platform if it doesn’t include Medicare for All, representing the Democratic Party’s latest struggle to unite its progressive and moderate wings and bring Sanders voters into the fold ahead of the November election.

Politico reports that more than 360 delegates—mostly representing Sanders, though some back presumptive nominee Joe Biden—have signed on to the pledge, which calls on delegates “to vote against any platform that does not include a plank supporting universal, single-payer Medicare for All.”

The organizers cite the current pandemic as making the need for single-payer healthcare even more urgent, writing in their petition that the widespread job losses resulting from the pandemic “has highlighted the need to separate healthcare from employment.”

Major progressive groups are expected to back the pledge, including RootsAction.org, Progressive Democrats of America and the Bernie Delegates Network.

My family, though, are going to vote for Biden because he’s a Democrat and we have to get rid of Trump. Same shit with Herself. Meh. Whatever.

@srobert – traditionally, and historically, and I say this with great certainty – biden would be lying about doing anything

progressive. And, you know, you can’t retract your vote. Once the election is over, the voters are forgotten. the DNC will have gotten what it wanted.

This is why the “lesser of two evils” stuff won’t work. It’s pretty clear over the last few decades that the Dems count on us voting this way, as they move ever more right and into the pockets of the rich. Their lips move, but only lies come out. Empty promises, and then we get chided for believing them (remember to sit down, eat your peas, and shut up).

I say, fuck ’em all. Even Bernie, if he’s not going to stand up to their lies and cheating. He’s not dumb, so he knows he’s been cheated out of the presidency twice, while the country gets worse for most of us, and better for the elite.
