Both the dem and rep sites are mostly hate speech, most of it targeting progressives and minorities. While there is a fine line between free speech and hate speech, both site’s regulars post their death wishes for numerous people and groups every day.

People rationalize it, think it’s just “venting” or not serious but it’s wishing people dead, all the time. I won’t post the sites or specific examples but anyone that visits either site know it’s true.

Bigger question: when, if ever, will hate speech be addressed in the U.S.?

Principal Skinner is currently trying to herd the PUMAs by launching SV’s 2020 primary forum much earlier than he did for the 2008 & 2016 versions. And this one has some new rules attached. You have to declare your support for a candidate in order to post in the forum. His rationale for this rule?

Keeping track of members’ candidate preferences has the following benefits: 1) When someone posts about the primaries, their stated candidate preference will provide useful context to their post. 2) We can tally the number of people who have indicated a preference for each candidate to get a general idea of how much support they enjoy on DU. 3) We will use stated candidate support as a means to grant access to dedicated candidate supporter groups. 4) We can potentially use candidate preferences to balance the partisan makeup of juries that are called to judge alerted posts, if we deem it necessary. 5) We can use candidate preferences to display or hide posts from candidate supporter groups on the Latest Page or elsewhere.

If he genuinely believes this is going to tamp down the hate raging on his website, I wish him the best of luck, but I ain’t holding my breath. Especially not that a coordinated Brockbot posse won’t figure out how to manipulate these new rules to get around it and still have alert swarms. How many new accounts will sign up as “Sanders supporters”, never actually post at all, but be included on juries which then almost always vote to hide posts from ACTUAL Bernie supporters.

I didn't refuse to vote for Hillary Clinton because any goddamned Russian told me to. I refused to vote for her because she is a warmongering, election stealing, Goldman Sachs fellating, Republican WHORE. No offense to sex workers.

Wish I had the nerve to revisit that site, yet I will say Good Riddance to Rubbish.

One question is, do they still have moderators at SV or do they completely rely on the Jury System?

Not even going to ask how they are dealing with the sock-puppet invasion…

My understanding is they completely rely on the jury system, whatever that is.

Hmph. Looked over there; they even have little avatar pictures of the members’ preferences. Sounds to me like a quick, easy way to mass ban all of the supporters of one candidate or the other when the order comes down from On High.

Hope we have 4.0 up and running by then.

As the posts quickly roll up in the new forum over there, one thing is obviously clear….

Most of the rabid Bernie hate on that site is coming from supporters of one specific candidate. No names mentioned here, but if she caught you smoking a joint in your car, she would probably steal your car AND put you in prison for it.

They even have a poll based on users preferences but there are a lot of people gone. Sanders only has 7%. 49% are undecided. I declared my support for Sanders just so I can access the new candidates supporter forums. They are going to be closing down existing groups and opening up new ones with changes.

I just want to skip the GDP nonsense which is already filling up with misinformation.

I want to present this question (which some may take as rhetorical):

Who needs who more: SV, in need of posters—or posters, in need of SV?

When Discussionist started out, it was actually a decent board. Seemed to be an even split of left-leaning & right-leaning people and I could have reasonable discussions with many of the right wingers. Probably didn’t hurt that my opinion of Hillary wasn’t any better than theirs’ even if it was coming from different starting points.

After the 2016 election though (the site took longer to get back on line than SV did, even though it was owned by the same guys and hosted on the same servers) the site took a hard right turn to the point where the MAGAtt extremists ran everybody else off the board via alert swarming (much like the PUMAs at SV did) and Principal Skinner & his two sidekicks virtually abandoned the board. I left there myself after racking up 6,666 posts, but there were many others who were placed on the so called “24 hour flagged for review” account freeze, and remain there months or now even years later.

I think the MAGAtts like the place because it’s just a lot better forum software than Free Republic or Stormfront have. RimJob is still using the same setup he had in 1999, for Hell’s sake!

I chose Tulsi just to get under the Puma/ Donut crowds skin and voila.. within a couple of weeks I was banished for fairly innocuous comments spurred by the usual suspects.. they targeted me because I wouldn’t play nice with their disdain for WOC like Nina, Tulsi & AOC – pointing out their obvious hypocrisy was way too much for their sensibilities… they will use those “candidate” of choice options to target dissent against their current candidate of choice – it is obvious.. at that time plan “A” was still kinda in affect with Kamala and boy did they not like her record of being a DA being pointed out.. especially from a minority like me that has quite an enlightening experience with “law enforcement” in the inner city..

Anywho, I am sure Buttijeg has been getting a lot of play lately, since Kamala tanked & Beto never took off… Plan “D” Biden will be the flavor pretty soon, that echo chamber is so obvious to see now.. I can’t believe I once thought I was getting straight truth & perspective from there.. what I don’t get are how folks are so easily transitioned to support whomever they are told to, if you really bought into the “WOC” line in 2018 – how can Beto, Buttijeg & Biden ever be your candidate?? Maybe then they’ll consider Tulsi??… lol, nahhh

Remember the scene in Animal House where the sorority sisters walked back from their awful date with Delta House brothers and said, “Eeeewww!” ???

It’s like that hearing this, too, and I don’t even have to witness further to know it shames the first name of that site even more.

I would like to lead by example the conversation we all should be having about 2020, and frankly… I can’t wait for 4.0 to do just that.

Hell, no... I'm not giving up...

SV? DinoU? Nothing left but right wingers after 2016. There are a couple of hangers on trying to say truth, but there is no one there who cares. Falls on deaf ears.

ironically part of their downfall: they thought if they kicked people out of their smelly little playpens they’d won, that there was no Other Place–in fact, SV and DKos would have the honor of being part of the power and money flow keeping away all harm from Mother

Salon, Slate, Vox, Vice, Daily Beast, DU, DKos, HuffPo, RawStory, AlterNet, ThinkProgress, TPMemo, Smirking Chimp, Lawyers Guns Money, EmptyWheel, Mother Jones, The Nation, The Daily Show team, Tom Tomorrow, The Guardian had all investigated Obama and revealed his lies and failures: that wasn’t going to happen to Mother, period

Skinner and the inhabitants of DU highly overrate their impact on society….especially since they kicked me off for chastising the wannabe empress and her followers.

I was only surprised by how long it took them to do so being one of the original joiners.

I’m not sure why my reply isn’t showing up but Discussionist does turn up on hate site radars.

Hate website

a quick brows of current ops shows many postings that indicate hate, alt-right and racism. This website has been moving in this direction from its start up but recently has ballooned with hate. https://www.discussionist.com/1014367174 https://www.discussionist.com/?com=view_post&forum=1014&pid=367181 https://www.discussionist.com/?com=view_post&forum=1015&pid=1440552 …and that’s only a small sample. I would at the very least keep an eye on this website and or the members that indicate that by what they say imply that they are at the very least in agreement with alt-right, KKK, nazi and other white supremacist groups. Thank you for what you do.

I might never visit that site again. It has been a very long time (year?) since I even looked at the front page.

I never registered for the Discussionist.

What makes it a hate site? Certain posters enjoy protected status, which they use to harrass people with whom they disagree. Any attempt to consider more than one side, to admit opposing viewpoints, to discuss errors or mistakes by the Exhalted Few, will result in banishment. Don’t even THINK of trying to laugh at ourselves. Failure to hop on the latest condemnation bandwagon amounts to racism, homophobia, sexism, etc. Basically, any deviation from the unwritten party line amounts to fundamental disloyalty, and results in banishment. I always thought this kind of doctrinaire thought policing was the province of the Socialist Workers Party, or the John Birch Society, but it appears to be thriving within the Democratic Party. Very unfortunate.

It is a “love and forgive” site for turd way politicians and Biden. Now the site is claiming Bernie was the reason that Flores complained about Biden. That thread is definitely a hate thread.
