Woman Dragged Out of WV House Hearing…
… For Listing Oil and Gas Contributions to Members
Source: Common Dreams
Lissa Lucas traveled the 100 miles from her home in Cairo, West Virginia to the state capitol in Charleston Friday to testify against an oil and gas industry sponsored bill (HB 4268) that would allow companies to drill on minority mineral owners’ land without their consent.eridani, Gryneos, Yardener and 40 othersmrdmk, Baba OhReally, bobthedrummer, closeupready, Utopian Leftist, cui bono, mmonk, twenty, HeartoftheMidwest, Rozinante, Pacco Fransisco, nevereVereven, Two way street, davidthegnome, disillusioned73, Enthusiast, beemerphill, Johnny Rash, Pam, tk2kewl, DesertRat2015, daleanime, GloriaMundi, Babel 17, Calico, Peace Patriot, Doremus Jessup, 99thMonkey, Pastiche, pacalo, Mnpaul, hypergrove, Abelenkpe, quinn, Punxsutawney, ctsnowman, ThomPaine, ChefEric, A little weird, NV Wino like this

2. She's running for W.VA House of Delegates/check out her website
She’s a gutsy lady and a long-time Democrat, but is running on anti-corporate, progressive values, calling out both Rs and Ds for being bought and paid for. Pretty decent website as well, titled “Holler From the Hollers”.
From both sides of the aisle, politicians are representing their own interests. Data shows that the rich and powerful have nearly complete influence over public policy, while average people have virtually zero impact. Has this country become an oligarchy? There is some debate.
However you would characterize it, it’s clear there are some serious problems, and that those problems have to do with the fact that money buys power. Well, I’m just fed up with that. In fact, I’m so mad I’m running for office. If elected, I’ll represent tax paying West Virginians, not just special interests. I want to make sure our government is putting The People first.
Here’s what I’m focused on:
Priorities: Because we want good jobs, good roads, good I-net, good schools.
Common sense: Because we can’t keep paying for more than we get.
Property rights: Because we want good neighbors, not corporate invaders.
Money out of politics: Because working hard shouldn’t make you second class.
I’ll represent you—and not just when your needs happen to coincide with the needs of these special interest groups. Essentially, that’s why I’ve decided to run: They’re not hearing us. We want jobs—AND we also want clean water and air. We want our property rights protected, AND we want a better future for our kids.
And you know what? Those things are not mutually exclusive; we don’t have to choose between them.
So let’s Holler from the Hollers about it!
I won’t be taking money from SuperPACs and other corporate interests. I don’t care if I offend the people who are working for those interests by telling them, “No, I’m not abandoning my neighbors just so you can line your pockets.” And I don’t care if I offend party elites by saying, “No. I’m not putting this party over the interests of the people.”
Let’s get beyond the partisanship, and focus on our shared vision for West Virginia; let’s focus on issues that will actually help people.
We’ll have a choice to have our voices heard this time, to “Holler from the Hollers!” Let’s do our best to make sure all the money on the other side doesn’t drown us out.
Vote Lissa Lucas in District 7 (Ritchie, Pleasants) in 2018.

5. If she was in order, this is unacceptable
Looks like she was at a speaker’s microphone. Seems to imply she was in order and recognized as giving testimony.
I don’t care if she’s a Democrat, this is unacceptable behavior on the part of the committee. Unless she was violating some rule of order, which is not evident, she should have swatted the hell out of anyone laying hands on her. Those who beat their swords into plowshares will plow for those who don't.

Do conflicts of interest matter in cases like this? He said she was making, “personal attacks against committee members” but all I heard was the recitation of facts that I believe are public information?
Obviously people on the committee have taken money from industry… So, in what way is it even remotely out of order to point this out? Was she wrong? Were her facts in question? Or… were they just unwilling to let someone tell the truth?
I admire her courage. They had no right to touch her.“There is no distinctly native American criminal class save Congress.” - Mark Twain

9. She had a great response, along the lines of "if you think naming ….
… your donors is a personal attack, you should send the money back.”
