“Canadian mogul fined after getting Covid vaccine meant for Indigenous residents”

I’m posting the BBC version of this story rather than one of the many Canadian versions because of their amusing use of the word “mogul” in the headline, as well as the foreshadowing use of “former” in the mogul’s job title. And yeah, we’ve got our share of rich assholes here.

“The former head of a Canadian casino company and his actor wife have been fined after chartering a private plane to a remote community near the Alaska border and receiving coronavirus vaccines meant for vulnerable Indigenous residents.

According to officials, Rodney and Ekaterina Baker travelled by chartered plane to Beaver Creek, a community of 100 in Canada’s Yukon territory, where a mobile team was administering the Moderna vaccine to residents. Among those slated for the vaccine were elderly members of the White River First Nation.

At the mobile clinic, the Bakers claimed to be workers at a local motel, according to reporting by the Yukon News.”

I’m sure that the bad press will bother those rich fuggers more than the fine!

Yeah, the fine’s a joke for them. If they could afford to charter a plane, then the fine is just part of doing business. But the notoriety is a different matter. Unlikely it’s a coincidence that he “resigned” shortly after this news broke. I suppose his aspiring-actor wife might get some work in a Q Anon video; but otherwise, it’s looking like they don’t have a lot of supporters here.

When I saw the title I figured it was just some rich person using their connections, but —

–chartering a plane and posing as casino workers means they’re not as moguly as all that; they have enough $ to charter a plane from canada to alaska, but not good enough connections to get whatever they want from their equally well-connected private physician.

If he resigned, he’s not the head of the company, ergo not really a mogul either.
