You mean your electric power stays on long enough to finish a movie?

Primarily to see Wonder Woman 1984. (What a dog!) Also wanted to see Godzilla vs Kong. (Booooring.)
But I stumbled upon this Norwegian series called Beforeigners. It is in Norwegian with subtitles. The premise is, people from prior timelines bubble up (literally) in the harbor into the 21st century. So we have cavemen consorting with 19th and…[Read more]

Watching Cat On a Hot Tin Roof. in the forum Movies, Television, Streaming 4 weeks ago
I’ve been catching some movies of the early 30’s (William Powell, etc.) before this crap ensued. Those movies are almost worthy of MST 3000 audience.

What a crappy movie. I don’t care if it won Oscars. This article blames it on the fact that Hays Act censorship rules would not allow the film to deal with the homosexual attraction between two characters. Paul Newman’s character, Brick, seems tormented by the loss of his glory days as a football star and the death of his best friend Skipper. Any…[Read more]

I highly recommend “Roman J. Israel,” streaming on imdb.com now (as of 3/7/2021). He plays a social justice attorney with quirks and idiosyncracies that will amuse you.
It’s a drama, but there is plenty of suspense.

Spiral – French police series – really good! IMO! in the forum Movies, Television, Streaming 2 months ago
But it does remember where I have left off. Most series let me skip the introduction. The NY Times often does a monthly preview of what’s coming up.

I am one of those who won’t give Bezos any money, not that that bothers him, and MHZ seems to have everything I might want to watch. Do you get the option to skip the intro? does MHZ remember where you were when watching anything? Not a biggie for me, but I like the “continue watching” on other streamers.

Jeff Bezos won’t get a penny from me, other than what he already has because my county gave him a 15 year, 100% property tax abatement, and raised mine and that of every other property-owning private citizen in the county.
If it’s only on Amazon, I’ll live without it. Doesn’t matter what it is.

I subscribed to MHZ Choice, it is only 7.99 and has loads of Nordic Noir – World Wide Noir, really. “Foreign and international content”. That seems weirdly repetitive or something. Started watching Spiral, got hooked, dug around, and some consider it better than The Wire. Which I have not watched yet.
Finally replaced my broken Sort of Cle…[Read more]

Jonathan Scott’s “Power Trip” in the forum Movies, Television, Streaming 4 months ago
You probably know Jonathan Scott from the “Property Brothers” TV show. His film is the antithesis of the Michael Moore, Jeff Gibbs production “Planet of the Humans.” Scott loves solar power, and spends almost 90 minutes making it look really, really good. The focus is on how the utility monopoly has us blocked from realizing the solar dream.…[Read more]

I complained within the mod group late last night Eastern time. So, I’ll have to see what our fearless leaders says. No doubt, the site, having been cleaned up in other ways, has this glitch. You have to go down from many of the pull down menus at JPR’s sub-headings to avoid that.
Also, Colm Meaney’s role was quite the departure from what I’ve…[Read more]

Now that is interesting. Common in a western about building a railroad. And Colm Meaney is always good. First noticed him in Layer Cake. Love that movie, Daniel Craig, but I cannot watch it again. The ending. So I watched the first episode and yep, I was hooked. Not really a “western”, either. Could not place Anson Mount until I went to IMD…[Read more]

Our son gifted his dad with this for father’s day a few years ago. I loved the series. I loved Anson Mount and Common in this, too.
