Whew! Three hours long. This is a story that takes place in the Jimmy Hoffa era and is told through the narration of a hitman, or “house painter,” to use the code word. It stars Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and is directed by Martin Scorsese. An epic film with major stars released solely on Netflix.
It’s long and the multiple time period flash backs can be annoying, but it’s well worth the watch. Some of the single-take camera shots are wonderful. They’ve used CGI to age the characters through the different eras, similar to what they did in Benjamin Button only more subtle. Masterful work.
What this major film release through Netflix portends for the movie industry and movie theatres is yet to seen.
