Rice crackers CAN taste good in the forum Jackpine Radical Cooking 4 days ago
Since I can’t have bread right now (another friggin’ elimination diet), or corn, or potatoes, or nuts, I’ve been badly craving something crunchy. Well, my prayers were answered last night when I came across a new brand of rice cracker. They’re made in the US, so easy for you guys to get. Made with black or red rice, salt, and palm oil…[Read more]

Yeah … I could do this Sardines w/Capers, lemon… in the forum Jackpine Radical Cooking 4 days ago
Funny — I got the recipe from my elderly Italian friend, for whom I cook occasionally. He asked if I could make this, and thankfully he knew where to get the fresh sardines. (Gotta go to the secret Italian seafood shop in the sketchy industrial area.) It was really fantastic. He served it with his homemade wine which, according to my partner, was…[Read more]

During the transition, cops were still arresting people for possession of small quantities, and of course they were disproportionately targeting people of colour. PM Trudeau expressed his disappointed in trademark fashion but did nothing to stop it. During the debates, the leader of the NDP (our more progressive party) said his government would…[Read more]

In fact, as long as I pledge my allegiance, file taxes, and report my savings to Uncle Sam, he doesn’t care if I do the same with most other countries. The only legal requirement is that when I enter the U.S., I do so on my U.S. passport and not on my Canadian one. At least according to the State Dept. (More info here.)

I’ll have you know that I was born ‘merikan! Or does the algorithm refuse to acknowledge dual citizenship?
(Hmm. Seems the problem is gone, since this posted with no error.)

Got this error message twice this morning while trying to reply to two different threads. Simple replies — no pics, links, or even formatting. My replies disappeared and all I got was this lousy message. Anyone else experiencing this? (Obviously posting an OP doesn’t seem to be a problem.)

Thanks for noticing. 😀 Had it not been for the confederacy of dunces storming the White House, the dems would have done absolutely nothing to hold Trump’s administration accountable in any way. The lovefest for the repubs is bad enough as it is — “we need a strong republican party!” — just imagine the slobbering orgy of bipartisanship that…[Read more]

In the early years, it wasn’t as noticeable. But eventually they were fully assimilated. Last time I was in a Fred Meyer, about 2 years ago in Springfield, OR, it looked like a dying K-Mart. IMHO, of course.

The dem club is apparently run by Mean Girls, and men whose favourite movie was Revenge of the Nerds. So glad I gave up my membership. Not that I have any sort of sympathy for the orange-hued aspiring dictator, but I think I have to somewhat agree with my irony-challenged Trump-loving brother, who said: “Nothing worse than a poor winner who keeps…[Read more]

As we pass the 18-month mark of a one-year commitment to house and support a formerly homeless university student who graduated last summer, I offer this video tribute. My partner and I have now accepted the fact that we’ll probably have to sell our house and move in order to escape him. While he’s actually rather sweet, he’s definitely not all…[Read more]

Always looking for a way to squeeze blood from a turnip — or from an underpaid and overworked employee. I’m not at all surprised that some people — fuck, probably many — see this as an earning opportunity. Just look at the monsters who stockpiled essentials and then resold them for 10x their original cost. I have family members who are like…[Read more]

alcina replied to the topic Nevada bill would allow tech companies to create government in the forum General Discussion 1 week ago
I guess we’ve had the illusion of a free democracy long enough. Sure, right now the people can still believe they actually “elect” a government to “represent” them; but by and large, the candidates in those elections are chosen by the ruling class and the winners are predetermined. And to a large extent, we already live in communities controlled…[Read more]

Yeah, the fine’s a joke for them. If they could afford to charter a plane, then the fine is just part of doing business. But the notoriety is a different matter. Unlikely it’s a coincidence that he “resigned” shortly after this news broke. I suppose his aspiring-actor wife might get some work in a Q Anon video; but otherwise, it’s looking like…[Read more]

I’m posting the BBC version of this story rather than one of the many Canadian versions because of their amusing use of the word “mogul” in the headline, as well as the foreshadowing use of “former” in the mogul’s job title. And yeah, we’ve got our share of rich assholes here.
