artytexas replied to the topic Poll: Are there people you know who have had the Covid-19 virus? in the forum General Discussion 2 years ago
The cousin of a friend and a friend of a friend have both died. I know a few people who think they’ve had it, but none confirmed. I expect that will change before long since my state and city have reopened.

To go/curbside food will certainly save some places, but others are paying high rent on large dining rooms and/or trying to sell food that doesn’t necessarily travel well or can’t be easily packaged to go, plus limited (to no) alcohol sales. It really sucks for everyone…. worker, owner and guest.

Yeah you can reduce the number and rearrange tables in some shops, but most restaurants need every penny of every cover on every table in there to keep going. Half occupancy doesn’t begin to solve the financial problem without rent or payroll assistance available. My restaurant is all booths and would require major renovation to follow d…[Read more]

We could have both work and containment, but here we are. It just kills me to see my waiter friends advocating to open it all up. I understand, but ugh, NO!!

I am in unemployment limbo, and nearly broke waiting, but the thought of having to suit up for work any time soon…. I can’t do it. Fortunately my local leaders are sane-ish, but the governor could force things. I hate all of this so much.

I am not hating lock down. The big change is not going to work, but I do not miss putting on my waiter suit at all. LOL. I miss the money, and some of the people, but happy that dining room is shut down. I had been desperate for time to paint uninterrupted by work and other demands, and the lock down has let me get two big pieces finished, so f…[Read more]

They only started testing more people last week, so I expect it to go much higher. Dallas is doing an ok job despite our governor, and events that would have exploded our numbers all over Texas were cancelled… SXSW and Houston Rodeo specifically.

Whatever I can get right now. I know the devil is in the details, but we get handed 1000 dollars as has been mentioned, it will keep me housed and fed for a while longer. I may yet lose the car, but at least I won’t be completely ruined.

With Dallas shutting down everything, I lost my job for a week or two, at least. I can do some other things for income, and I will probably be able to make April rent. If it goes on longer than a couple of weeks, I don’t know…. It will get ugly, even assuming unemployment approval. I am really excited to have time off, and *really* excited t…[Read more]

Unsure on unemployment, or how it would work for tipped employees, and how an entire industry shutting down would further affect that. As a general rule, I do not count on having any kind of resources available or rights re my work, health, etc. Sigh. I am really really scared I am going to lose everything, which is not much, whether I fall ill or not.

It is only a few days in to official ‘social distancing’, and I am a lot more worried about paying my bills than I am about getting the disease. I don’t know how anyone in the service industry (and many others) are going to survive this…. financially, before we even get to the dangers posed by the actual illness and the treatment thereof. The…[Read more]

They really do think all those voters are going to go to Joe automatically, I think they are way too late to “stop Bernie”. I also think their stated purpose being to “stop bernie” is off putting and will push even more people to his campaign, and open more eyes to the Party’s problems. It is both horrifying and fascinating to watch.

I think a portion of the delegate count comes from their number of votes, then regional delegates add to that base. Going to go double check my memory. on edit…. he would have had to meet the same threshold for that delegate too, so no idea.

You have to wonder if their brazenness and complete shamelessness won’t actually work in Bernie’s favor? With voters I mean, and even some delegates…. like the lady in NH….
