“printing more money” is an over-simplification, but I’ll leave you to decide if it seems worthwhile. 🙂
Kelton, as the most public face of MMT, has done a lot of interviews/podcasts/etc. that might give you enough of a sense of the perspective without buying the book.
This is a fairly recent talk, but there are many…[Read more] -

are more traditionally minded economists – Keynsian, except when they’re criticizing him.
MMT is post-Keynesian. A different perspective. If you go into it with a closed mind *cough* Paul Krugman *cough* it won’t resonate. If you let your common sense prevail, it will.It seems like the bit that stops most people in their tracks is when they read…[Read more]

You could also learn more about it from Bill Mitchell, Warren Mosler, Pavlina Tcherneva, and L. Randall Wray.MMT is a synthesis
It’s worth learning about – if for no other reason than to not be one of those people who knows nothing about how sovereign nations use their money but like to opine that economists who…[Read more]

she got the second part right, except for the future tense “we could.”
“we could easily devolve into what political scientists call competitive authoritarianism, in which elections still take place but the system is skewed to entrench autocrats.”
We already did that.

Still, there are a lot of people working now that are not in jobs that can only be done in person who might make different economic decisions if they had the financial wherewithal to do so.
I am an MMT proponent, so UBI isn’t my go-to response (I think that a federal jobs guarantee is a better long-term solution) – but in the short-term, it could…[Read more] -

According to “Business Insider: South Africa” the SA variant has been identified in 23 countries as of today – including Canada (so, yeah, it’s probably in the USA, too).
I wish I were more knowledgeable about science – I know I read things (like this WHO discussion of the variants, that says the new UK strain is not phylogenetically related to…[Read more] -

way like a household budget.
Households – and states – do not possess the ability to create their own sovereign, fiat currency.
Read Stephanie Kelton’s (economics, Stony Brook) “The Deficit Myth.” It is the most accessible book on economics I have ever read. Or, if you are more of an economist, dig into Bill Mitchell (economics, U of NSW), Warren…[Read more] -

under-educated about S Korean politics, to my embarrassment, so I’ll rely on your take from that perspective. It sounds extremely troubling – and the various sites I looked at after I read your post gave off distinct whiffs of propaganda.

It seems (based on a brief search) that this place has been ‘leaking’ since 1999, at least on and off, if not all the time.
But if they closed it tomorrow, it wouldn’t solve that problem. They have (as is true everywhere) no place to safely dispose of the spent fuel. -

that there used to be (don’t know if its true now) a clause in the paperwork when a military officer retired – they could be called back to active duty for up to ten years, which means you aren’t really retired after you retire. He could be looking at a military tribunal, not just federal court.

Of course, we’d have to indict all of Congress for that. -

Impeachment will not, unless and until he is successfully tried – and by the time that happens he won’t be in office anyway.
So, push for the 25th first – but I don’t think the will is there with Pence and the Cabinet.

Atlantic article is very revealing about the differences in healthcare in various countries. It was a survey of “mommy bags” – the kit that women think or are asked to bring to the hospital for childbirth, but it gives a real sense of the privilege we have compared to other places.
I’ve yet to see a photo of a ward in any middle-eastern country,…[Read more]

and not in a super-high risk group, so the tiers in my state put me pretty low on the list. I’m okay with that. If it’s a choice between my waiting and someone who needs two doses getting two doses in the appropriate time-span, I’ll wait.

adjusting the protocols – delaying the second jab by weeks; eliminating the second jab and increasing the dosage of the first; decreasing the dosage of both jabs; giving one dose of one vaccine and one dose of a different one – it won’t matter who gets it first.

holding the bag for determining time of death. I wonder how county EMS feels about that.
Seems like this has less to do with oxygen availability and more to do with no room at the inn. No beds, probably no room in the hospital morgues. It doesn’t say where they are supposed to transport the person they just determined is dead. Do they take them to…[Read more] -
