Titmice (mouses?) are such sweet little birds. I never see them fighting with anyone.

To the Titmice
In a cave in the flowering cherry tree
Tufted titmice are busy as bees
How many nestlings will I see?
One, two, three, four
It’s difficult to keep the score
In habitats outside my door
Where birds, mammals and insects are preserved
And creation flourishes undisturbed -

Well, Glass Mountain is sad, but at least I can see some green and the birds are lovely.

But many moons ago I was there in December for the sandhill cranes. Quite a sight when they come in to feed.

We grow as many different varieties as possible. The yellow-orange California poppies are the most reliable around here, blooming from late April to September. Have you been to Corrizo Plain for the big bloom? Well worth it.

I don’t know the photography lingo, but my father-in-law (who died waaaay before I married his son) left behind old expensive looking cameras from the late 40’2, 50’s. He had all these cards written in ink with f’s calculations. I just connected to what he wrote down and you posted, I think.

Not great, but I’m getting better. These were shot at 1/2000 of a second. Still need to increase shutter speed. Still, it’s fun to see the wing configurations, even if slightly soft. The first guy is a tufted titmouse, with tuft flattened for (one supposes) aerodynamic purposes. The second is an acorn woodpecker who apparently like corn as well as…[Read more]

@mrmickeysmom probably knows what gropple is. Little round kind of soft snow/ice pellets.
I’d take a dull day at the beach, too. The wind is no doubt biting cold along Lake Erie right now.

I’ll take a dull day at the coast. The first one’s my favorite.
