Watching this all play out thus far, I am more scared of what the government may do than the virus. Technically, I am in one of the “higher” risk groups (over 60), but no health issues. Yes, I am fortunate in that regard. Also have a pretty sturdy immune system, and quit smoking seven years ago.
So I am far more worried about losing our rig…[Read more]

On second thought, Nancy Pelosi being ordered to self isolate might not be such a bad thing…..

The county I live in has a population of just over 291,000; we have two presumptive positive Covid 19 cases. Five total in the state. Friday night when I stopped at the grocery store on the way home, it was a madhouse. I have never seen so many grocery carts brimful of toilet paper in my life. Plus everything else folks were scooping up…[Read more]

@ohiobarbarian, I visited the locally owned pagan book shop here yesterday to pick up incense; I wanted to give them some business, thinking it might be slow for them. Place was packed. 🙂 All the employees helping shoppers; lady ahead of me spent $65 on assorted things. It brightened my mood considerably to see them so busy.

So far, only two cases in my county, so all library branches remain open. Story hours have been cancelled and toy checkout suspended for now. They are also shutting down every other computer for public use to create more social distance among patrons. But open for browsing and check out/returns.
One story that really irritated me was the one…[Read more]

I still have the urge to make a sign that says something about more problems caused by wealthy assholes at Monsanto, but need to go to work. It just makes me angry a lot of people will experience financial hardship as a result of this family’s selfishness.
I guess the family’s identity is well-known in St Louis; they have lawyered up. The…[Read more]

Fans traveling to see their teams book hotel rooms, buy gas, purchase meals and snacks. None of that money will be spent. Now the NCAA will still get their advertising dollars, but most everyone else will be SOL.

Despite my best intentions to ignore the news, my job is such that I became aware of the major train wreck going down in St Louis surrounding their sole case of coronavirus there. A customer called to cancel an order; Webster University is cancelling classes until April 6th. Started checking, and St Louis University is asking students to dela…[Read more]

Why the hell does CA only have 94% of their votes counted? It has been over a week.
So help me, paper ballots counted by hand would go faster than the dog and pony shows the DNC is running. It takes longer to cook the books via electronic voting than run a fair and square election on paper, I suppose. Hmm—a bit of a red flag now that I th…[Read more]

Well, like @robbins I voted for Sanders in Missouri today. Like @ohiobarbarian, I am feeling well and truly done.
If the state gets recreational pot on the ballot in November (signed the petition Saturday) I will probably head to the polls. If not—we’ll see.
In the meantime, think I will take a break from the news. Between the primary de…[Read more]

The line that jumped out at me in the article excerpt above was the last:
“I saw all these people dropping out and they were all endorsing Biden, and I thought, ‘Biden is the one who can be elected.’” It was a common theme in voter testimonies.
There in a nutshell is this country’s biggest problem. An apparently large segment of the electorat…[Read more]

emme replied to the topic The GOP is already diagnosing Biden with dementia. in the forum General Discussion 10 months ago
Dementia and Alzheimer’s touch a very large percentage of people in this country. It seems most have watched a family member, friend or neighbor lose their cognitive abilities and physically decline. Once a person sees this, they recognize it happening to someone else, in this case, Biden.
I don’t fault the repugs for pointing this out. But…[Read more]
