I’m not going to try to address everything in this post. It would take too long and accomplish nothing.
One particular point might be worth pursuing, though. The author writes: “The EU is disintegrating, NATO will be ended by this conflict….” I’m not seeing the slightest evidence of that. The EU lost one member through Brexit, but tha…[Read more]

Jim Lane replied to the topic Pfizer…these folks may be worse than you thought! in the forum General Discussion 1 month ago
The videos linked in this thread run for more than an hour and a half, collectively. That’s more time than I’m willing to invest. Your question is outside my expertise, anyway. In all my years of practicing law, I don’t recall ever having researched the law of false imprisonment.

You won’t see a demand that they tailor their strategy to suit me. You won’t see anything close to it. The @closeupready “version” of my post is ridiculous.
What I actually wrote was a simple request that someone tell me what their proposed strategy is.
At least @passionateprogressive got specific: “I see that continued support for candida…[Read more]

You write, “RBN strategy is genuine and more is needed.”
I sat through that whole video (to my regret). The speakers conveyed: criticism of Marianne Williamson, the assertion that the progressive Democratic strategy has been “debunked”, and some self-congratulation about their own channel.
So is the “RBN strategy”…[Read more]

Jim Lane replied to the topic Probably you folks already knew that the Minsk Agreement was a sham. in the forum General Discussion 2 months ago
I have said on JPR that George W. Bush, who launched an aggressive war against Iraq, and Vladimir Putin, who launched an aggressive war against Ukraine, are both war criminals under the Nuremberg Principles. Do you agree with that statement?
I’ll add, in case there’s any doubt, that even without regard to international law, both of the…[Read more]

I didn’t say that we should always trust experts. Instead, I made two specific points:
First, your assertion about the leanings of older voters is contradicted by the first source I found in a quick search. As I also mentioned, the pro-Republican lean of older voters is a long-established phenomenon. I could find many more s…[Read more]

I didn’t know that you had been granted the power to unilaterally nullify treaties signed by sovereign states. I guess I missed the news story.
Okay, sarcasm aside, the underlying question is whether treaties mean anything. Is it your position that a country that enters into a treaty and later changes its mind can thereby renege on its a…[Read more]

The UN document – https://peacemaker.un.org/sites/peacemaker.un.org/files/UA_150212_MinskAgreement_en.pdf – simply recites the provisions of Minsk II. It says nothing about why the process broke down. As is common in such cases, each side blames the other.
And, of course, no discussion of international agreements on this subject can be com…[Read more]

You write that “older people are more likely to answer the phone and are also more likely to have voted for Biden.”
It’s been known for years that older people tend more Republican than the electorate as a whole. I think the GOP advantage among seniors has been declining, but it’s still there. CNN reported on a 2020 exit poll of…[Read more]

Jim Lane replied to the topic VA care free for vet's "emergency suicide care" in the forum General Discussion 2 months ago
Your criticism appears to be directed at the providers in the VA system. I have no personal knowledge on that score. The new program, however, also provides for the government to pay for or reimburse for care at a non-VA facility.

Jim Lane replied to the topic VA care free for vet's "emergency suicide care" in the forum General Discussion 2 months ago
You ask, “So you’ll get treatment after you attempt suicide?”
As the press release states, a veteran “in acute suicidal crisis” is eligible for this care. If you click through to the full text of the rule (link) and go to the Definitions section (38 CFR § 17.1205), you learn: “Acute suicidal crisis means an individual was determined t…[Read more]

You write, “Yet one more reason for the Empire to want to drive unemployment up.”
I’m sure it’s true that higher unemployment helps the military’s recruiting. At the same time, it’s also true that unemployment has been going down during Biden’s term in office. A chart from the Bureau of Labor Statistics:
The BLS tracks si…[Read more]

The bill to create the interstate highway system was enacted in 1956. The Supreme Court had decided Brown v. Board of Education in 1954, but obstruction by white supremacists meant that few schools had been desegregated. Other issues weren’t addressed until the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 19…[Read more]

What’s the current state of that idea? I know that Dore teased a run at one point, but I don’t routinely watch his show so I don’t know his current thinking.
Is he looking to the People’s Party, about which he was once so enthused? Last I heard, they didn’t have a very impressive record on the crucial issue of ballot status. Would he…[Read more]

I think there’ve been some Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory after the February 24 invasion, but that of course doesn’t retroactively justify the invasion.
