peacecorps replied to the topic 'A Complete Capitulation': Outrage as Democrats Abruptly Back Off Push for Witnesses in Trump Trial in the forum General Discussion 2 weeks ago
No votes were going to change with witness testimony. Another week or two of witnesses would have accomplished what exactly? Get this over with.
I am surprised that 7 republicans voted to convict anyway. Could be the most ‘bipartisan’ impeachment vote ever.

If so, she is a relatively innocent victim of the ‘evil left’ which is out to punish the right for exercising free speech rights. (I think I have the right’s spin down right.)
And we should not do anything that angers the GOP (which voted overwhelmingly against removing her committee assignments) because they might/will pay us back if/when they…[Read more]

“The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders . . . Just tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger.”
And ‘patriotism’ plays a key role. Hyper-nationalism is a key card played by the right. “Our country is in ‘danger’ from evil ‘outsiders’. Do you not…[Read more]

I had not thought that the international far-right might be similarly inspired.

believed otherwise.
The real question is “What comes next?” Do we collapse into hyper-nationalist memories of the ‘good ol days’ and denial of reality? (Our decline was caused by evil ‘others’. We are victims.)
Or do we become ‘just another country’ which seeks to cooperate with other ‘just countries’ to solve global problems? I fear we know…[Read more]

New study says COVID has forced up to one million from the country, but many people … cited Brexit as another push factor.
Migrants have left the United Kingdom in large numbers, causing what is likely to be the largest population decline since WWII, according to a new study.

peacecorps replied to the topic More ‘super-Covid’ strains coming as 'surge in cases lets virus thrive' in the forum General Discussion 1 month ago
Most know that viruses mutate. My (non-medical field) understanding is that most mutations are bad for the virus (as with human DNA mutations) but, occasionally, there is a mutation that benefits the organism. When that happens, things change.

We have a handful of progressive in the House and one in the Senate.
